Heh. ;D Either what I said was right, or Ash decided that it would work. That's really interesting.

Collars, eh? Falel's never worn a collar. Hei thinks it'd make him more like a pet, than a soul. Plus, I use restraint anyways. I have a hot temper... but years upon years of arguing with my father gave me the power to simply ignore anger. I don't have to feel it anymore, I can restrain myself whenever I choose.
Unless it's a friend getting yelled at, in which case I instantly become a snarling protective creature. ^^;

Hmmm well I dont see it like that. If a collar was something to degrade daemons then why would Cal and many other daemons have them?

Maybe you feel degraded on the inside. if not then i dont really know, because Fyo thinks they are degrading too.

Hmm...I can't imagine a daemon having a collar in any form if she/he or his/her human would feel like it was degrading in any way. My guess is that those who do have them, have them for symbolic reasons, and that seems to be the case for most of the people who have mentioned having them so far. So it most likely wouldn't be demeaning for anyone involved.
I think that if there's something that is so much a part of a person that it would be symbolized in some part of the daemon's appearance, but it's likely that one of the two (or both) would be uncomfortable with the idea of the daemon wearing a collar - or anything that makes them think of negative forms of restraint, like being a pet or trapped/bound in some way - then it would just appear in some other manner.
I guess that it might be possible for someone to have a collar on their daemon and for it to actually hold a strong negative connotation, though...but that would probably stand for something just as mentally or emotionally complex as a collar that stands for something that's considered more positive. Maybe it could be from some sort of past event that made someone feel used or controlled, and the collar's a memory of how things have changed since then, if they have...not to say that everyone's collars are negative, because I don't think so. It's just an example of what it could stand for if one was.
Really, it comes down to how the two in question interpret it, at least in my opinion. It's like dreams - symbols in dreams mean varying things to different people, so what might be a good sign to one person might be a bad one to another.

No I'm not degraded on the inside, I'm strong on the inside and I see the collar as a mark of that

Yumi said it exactly! ^^ For us it symbolizes, for some reason, a trip that freed us from depression. Since then it's come back, but wei dont' feel as restricted anymore. Rho stayed the same thing for months and months, and the form symbolized my depression. On this trip wei broke free and Rho changed again. I suppose he wears the collar to show that wei will never be restricted like that again, because every time I look at it I feel happy and free. It definately means other things as well, like that wei are free in other ways too. I had major surgery when I was little, but I can do everything that any other kid can do. Don't ask how a collar can symbolize freedom, but it does to us.It also shows me that even though I am hurt, I can still go on. When it showed up, I was/am beginning to get over a shattered dream, and now, even though It still hurts, the wound is slowly beginning to heal. I don't think it will ever quit hurting. Basically it is a freedom thing. I guess Rho figured I'd never realize it unless he did something that seemed so...anti-free. Which is true. -_-;

Well I still (sort of) am depressed (long story - don't ask) but Cal still has a collar. What does this mean? Is it restricting? Is it degrading to me?

That's completely up to you. What do you feel when you look at the collar. If it's a good feeling, then it probably means something good. If it's a bad feeling then it's probably something bad.

I think it also comes down to what type of collar it is *points below* this is the best pic I have of Pheo's collar and it's not really a collar so to me it doesn't symbolise anything that a dog-type of collar would. I personally still wouldn't find dog collars restricting or degrading because a dog collar is really means of identification, as opposed to a muzzle which really is restricting. So I think collars are connected to personal identification, such as bonds to your dæmon. EDIT: When I made it smaller I stuffed up the picture and accidentally saved it that way. So instead above is Pheo's chibi form with the collar, but the other pic was better... I'm hopless at getting my art onto computers it always looks worse -_-

Well when I look at the collar I see pride. But the dog tag is a reminder of my humble beginnings. Sort of, like the collar is a trophy of how far I've come but the tag is a reminder of how I started. If that makes sense What about anyone else? What are your thoughts? Oh and Cal's collar is red velvet with a ruby at the front so I guess it fits in with the pride thing

Spiral: Oh wow, that picture is so cute! ^_^ And looking at it, even though it's not that clear, I have to agree...it does look like a collar, but not like the kind you'd see on a pet. I think that'd definitely have an effect on the meaning of it, along with whatever else it may stand for.
Zoe: That makes sense to me. And like Hannah said, if that's how you feel when you see the collar and tag, then that's most likely what it means. The fact that there's a gem on it seems to back up your idea, too. So it sort of serves a double purpose - as a reminder of the past and a symbol of the present.

Capt would look nice in a collar and he likes the idea, but it's not natural. Whenever I imagine him, he'd be collarless. Unless I force the collar to appear, y'know?
I like the idea, however, I think constantly wearing it--like, everyday and not formal occasions--would take away the natural daemonness, making us little pets.

Rho's collar isn't petlike. It's kinda rugged...ish. It looks completely natural where it is. Like if this animal existed, the collar would go with it. Unlike dogs. Collars on dogs just dont' look...right. They do because dogs are supposed to wear collars, but it isn't natural. On Rho is. It doesn't even really look like a collar. Just a strip of deep green leather with silver wire to embellish it. The only collar-like thing are the two thin, silver dogtag-like tags. Not even really tags. If you've ever seen Daredevil, it's like Electra's neclace only slightly larger. And thinner depth-wise. The first one has 'Rhokath' on the front and 'Wild Magic' on the back. The lettering is sortof like what you'd expect it to look like if someone tried to scratch the words on, only neater. Like, the letters are the same size and it goes in a straight line. What the second one says is a complete mystery. I've tried to see it, but it's blurry. I suppose I'll see it someday.

does anyone else's dæmons carry around something else other than a collar? An arm band or something? ya, Kamy has a red wristband around her front right leg, with something scribbled on it. it looks like a motto or something but all I can make out is the words not judge. other than that I cant really tell, but I have an idea of what it might say.
