Out of curiosity, this is a poll to see how many dæmons speak without moving their lips or beak, and how many animate themselves enough so that they open their mouths when talking, and not have it look ridiculous.
I blame it mostly on my old love for the singing mammals in Disney movies that Rookie opens his muzzle when talking. =P It is always this way for his black coyote form... If he 'talks' to me as the coyote without opening his mouth.... he soon begins shaking his head in frustration. Of course we share a telepathic link, so he can talk to me just as clearly without moving a muscle... but it doesn't feel right, or look right. Taking away the animation in his facial expressions eliminates his Rookie-isms, ya know?
::blink:: Now that I think about it... the coyote may be his only form which has an animated mouth all the time, except for the animé forms. But that makes sense, considering it'll be his settled one. And the animé critters were animated to begin with. =)
The only shapes of his that don't move their mouths... only have beaks anyway. Not only would it look silly for his bird beak to open and close as he talks, but birds 'speaking' automatically reminds us of Tobias from the Animorph series. As a hawk he could only speak to his friends through thought-speak. His beak did not move while he did this.
Anyway, the inevitable question is: Does your dæmon's mouth move or not when he speaks to you? Why do you believe they talk like this, instead of doing the other thing?

Yeah, Mox usually opens his mouth while talking to me, though as you say he can also communicate to me without moving his mouth. I always find this a bit weird though, and I know hei finds it frustrating so hei doesn't do it very often. I think he mainly moves his mouth when hei talks because....well, why not? If hei uses his mouth to smile, sneer, laugh, grin etc, and he is not physically (in the uncorporeal sense) restricted by NOT being able to use his mouth for speech (like people who can't speak communicate in other means like writing, sign language and heightened body language etc) why shouldn't hei? I also agree with you Okibi......I think the Disney films are to blame in our case too...

Kel has never animated his mouth when talking, despite the many Disney films we've been subjected to. XD This is mostly because we're both of the opinion that it would be awkward to see a real animal move its mouth to speak, Babe nonwithstanding.
If I saw him in my mind's eye as a cartoon, that would be different. He'd probably move his mouth then. But that wouldn't happen, 'cause I've always had a hard time mixing cartoon and real life: I could never imagine Kel as a pokemon, for example. It's two-dimensional.... ^^;

Ooh, british accent, very cool.
My dæmon talks by moving his mouth. I would just find it weird if he didn't. I suppose I'm just used to it, and he rarley becomes any type of bird, so he has no worries about beaks.

Rano will almost always talk with an animated mouth. He also talks with his mind... at the same time. Except his mind-speech is faster than his mouth-speech. So I get to hear his words twice. Wei can't figure out how to make him stop this, it gets kindof annoying sometimes.

Lass talks to me without moving her mouth because: 1) If sheis part of me, and we dream of the same things, surely we think of the same things? 2) I've never actually seen what snow leopards look like when they're 'talking'.

I've never actually seen what snow leopards look like when they're 'talking'. And you're not going to, except from imagining it. =P (Though it'd be really cool to see an animated film featuring snow leopard characters...) Rookie sometimes moves his mouth while talking to me as a leopard, so I can imagine it well enough... It's like the entire body is real/normal, but his face is just unrealistic enough that he can speak and have it look alright.

I just learned about my daemon but I still don't think I could see him moving his mouth. I haven't seen him in other forms yet either (I mean I JUST learned about my daemon a couple of hours ago) but I just can't picture Kami opening his mouth. Even though I messed up on the voting thing -_-

Well he only used it once, but he was being very sarcastic, so it wasn't a cokney accent (sorry if misspelled, but the censor thing on the site put "thing" whenever i spell the word) but a more posh one...arg there was a name to it but i forgot...anyway it was the posh one you always see carricatured on TV.

Like the accent the BBC always used on the radio in the 50'S? Its funny, in most movies (especially Hollywood movies) if you're English you're mainly either a cockney or have a posh Hugh Grant like voice, or live in the country and say "Ooh Arrr" a lot! ;D After wei watched an Irish film called "Divorcing Jack", Mox kept talking in a Northern Irish accent for 3 days. It was really bizarre!

Rano has an accent occasionally. It only lasts for a few minutes though.
I'm not English, so I have no idea what 'posh' and 'cokney' mean... *hops off to google to find out*

Don't know what posh is though.
