OOC: You can, but you can't leap in and disturb the plot we have going here. Just kind of drift in, and if you're interacted with, well, that's how it goes. I'd suggest making a profile and starting in the RPG thread.

"I think I just might know what that is. If I'm right it's called an alethiometer. Could I see it, please?" The young man radiated charm and his smile was so disarming...
Hael, what do ya think? This guy seems trustworthy enough.
I'm not so sure of him, Adi. Be careful. Haelphaesus nudged Adrienne's hand with his wolf's nose.
Adrienne looked into the boy's eyes, searching for anything that could justify her gut's warning, but her search was fruitless. Just as she was giving the young man the Alethiometer, it began it's mad spinning and vibrating.
"Oh!" Adrienne gasped in surprise and she quickly pulled the compass back so that she could read it's message: wildman... serpent...
This boy is the thief! She looked up at young man in shock.

Instantly Thayndriar thought to him, She's lying! I didn't hear her walk to here, only away. She was already here before we were. She has to know something.
He decided to approach this differently.
"Alright. You don't have to tell me. I'll come find you when I'm through with my business. We'll 'talk' then. But, of course, it's really all up to you. We can talk now, or we can talk later. But, if we talk later, I can't ensure that I'll be in a good mood."

Julian had just been mentally complimenting himself on a job well done when the girl pulled the alethiometer away and stared at it. Swiftly he lowered his gaze and shifted to see it, but only caught the needle stop on one small diagram before it was off again, too rapidly for Julian's eyes to follow. It was a serpent.
'Serpent?' he cried mentally to Shay. 'Serpent, that's bad!'
'It tells the truth,' she said smugly, sitting down, curling her tail around her paws and looking up at him in a very cat-like way. 'I guess it just told her something bad about you.'
That irked him, but at least now he could drop all pretences. Before Shay could guess his plans he pulled out the dagger he'd taken from Fossil's home. It was long and dangerously sharp, the hilt beautifully crafted. Julian turned it slowly, eyeing the light that played along its blade, then he looked up at Adrienne, his calm demeanour replaced by a snarl. "Listen. You either give me that alethiometer right now or suffer the consequences. I'm not afraid to use this dagger. Don't want to, but I can. I won't have a reason to hurt you if you just give it to me. And you --" his eyes flickered in Haelphaesus's direction "-- you so much as look at my dæmon the wrong way and I'll gut your girl so fast you won't have time to move before you vanish. Do I make myself perfectly clear?"
He bit off each word, a low growl of threat in his voice. Shay was on her paws now, her fur on end, teeth bared in a silent hiss. Julian studied Adrienne intently. She seemed like a weak sort that he could bully into handing over the alethiometer with no problem. Her dæmon was the real threat, but hopefully Julian's words had made an impression. Mostly he was bluffing - he would never have killed this girl - but he could, and would, use the dagger if he had to.

Just tell him, Lindy! Beauet said mentally to Lindy, urgency in his voice. Lindy looked at the boy, unable to say anything. Then she found her voice again."The white haired girl and the boy with the sand cat daemon left the house. I'm not sure which way the white haired girl went. But, the boy went opposite of the way I went." She pointed behind her. At least now the boy would leave her alone.

Haelphaesus's hair stood on end, bristling with rage. Didn't I tell you that this boy was untrustworthy?
Adrienne looked down at her wolf dæmon, then she gazed at the beautiful golden instrument that was the cause of all of this mess.
Oh Hael, I could never risk losing you! I... I have to give him the Alethiometer... I have no choice!
Oh, there's always a choice. Wei could always fight.
But... but what if wei die? I'll lose you forever! Unwanted tears flowed from Adrienne's eyes, but she was too scared to brush them away. The boy with the dangerous knife stood, watching her every move.
Listen to me: that trinket is special. It belongs to somebody out there and wei can't let this punk steal it. Wei have been entrusted with it and I'm not about to lose my honor. I'll die if I have to!
Don't be so rash. I bet you that wei can outrun this guy. Ready?
Of course. Haelphaesus's muscles tensed ever so slightly. Adrienne desperately hoped the blonde haired boy didn't notice.
Wei go on my mark... GO! Adrienne squeezed the Alethiometer in her palm and dashed into Julian, knocking him aside as she and Haelphaesus fled for their lives.

Julian had anticipated her to run, from the moment he started to speak. What caught him off guard was that she had run into him, instead of the opposite direction. As he stumbled aside, Shay was off like a shot. 'You've made this my fight now; I suppose I'll have to finish it,' she thought testily to him.
Julian hesitated for just a second, then an unpleasant grip wound its way around his heart ... Shay was pulling. He spun on his heel and took off after her with all haste, but the thing that bothered him was that Shay didn't even stop when she started to tug. Started to become annoyed by his dæmon, Julian scowled. 'Slow down!'
'Speed up,' she shot back. Glaring at her, Julian sped his pace.
'Where are they? Do you see?' The crowd was pressing in on him; he tucked his dagger closer.
'Yes. They're just in front of me. Come on!'
Moments of panic would hit him when he lost sight of his dæmon, but that was more incentive to go faster. Finally he came to a break in the crowd, and spotted Shay, Adrienne, and Hael all at once. The moment he pulled closer Shay bounded around Hael and stopped directly in front of him, arching her back and hissing threateningly, a needle-clawed paw raised and tense to strike. Tasting victory, Julian shoved past a boy in his path with a brief, "Watch it, brat!" He was close now. The alethiometer was as good as his.
Assuming his air of control and dominance Julian pulled up alongside Adrienne, shifting his grip on the dagger. Copying Shay, he moved into Adrienne's path. "Shouldn't have done that. I'm sick of playing games, hand it over now."
This time the dagger was held close enough to Adrienne that if she moved at all Julian was fairly certain he could hit her with a swipe. Something about the alethiometer was drawing him in uncontrollably. And Shay could feel it too, Julian knew that, or she wouldn't be acting this way. He didn't just want it now. He needed it.

"Shouldn't have done that. I'm sick of playing games, hand it over now." The boy had come from no where and blocked Adrienne's path while his sand cat dæmon blocked Haelphaesus's path. Haephaesus, both surprised and enraged, changed into the form of a lion and roared at the cat.
Baring his teeth, Haelphaesus growled to the blonde haired boy, "Taboo or not, if touch her you'll soon discover what it feels like to have two fangs meeting in your neck!" The lion dæmon's threatening cry drew the attention of a few people in the crowd and they turned their heads with curiosity.
"Hael! No!" Adrienne wrapped her arms around her dæmon's neck and looked up at the boy with the knife that could possibly end their lives. "You want this?" She held up the Alethiometer and then proceeded to throw it into the crowd. "Go get it!"
It hit an unsuspecting boy in the back of the head and then disappeared amongst the sea of legs. The boy rubbed his throbbing head and looked around for the person who had assaulted him. When he finally spied the golden compass he picked it up, cursing all the while.
Wow, thought Adrienne. I didn't think I had the courage to do that. Hael, this might be the end. I love you.
I love you, too. But even if he kills us, look at all of the people watching us... he'd never get away with it...
Adrienne squeezed her arms tight around Haelphaesus's furry lion mane and leaned her head against him. She smiled grimly, watching the blonde boy, expecting the worst.

Rage flared in Julian's eyes and he took a step towards her with a snarled, "You little --"
"Julian!" Shay's voice startled him. He blinked and looked up - people were watching them.
He glared daggers at Adrienne and Hael, the dagger tight in his grasp. He was angry now; he wanted to hurt them. With an incredible feat of willpower, he forced himself to turn away and snapped without looking at Shay, "Where'd it land?"
She gestured with a nod of her head. Julian straightened out his jacket, cooling down, and strode into the crowd. "I'll finish with you later," he shot over his shoulder to Adrienne.
Shay glanced warningly at Hael before following her boy.
Julian eyed the kid who was holding the compass, not bothering to put the dagger in his pocket. He paused for a moment, then called, "Hey, kid. I'll trade ya ten pounds for that thing." If the bribe didn't work, surely violence would.

(OOC: I'm a bit confused. Where is this in relation to my character? From what I interpreted, your characters ran back toward the direction of mine. Is this true? And, was it my character you originally pushed aside? Please clarify. Cat and Tracy for the former question; the latter question for Cat only.)

Killer leaves a gas station with a chocolate bar in his hands. Mars, always mars. He starts walking down the road and he doesnt seem to know where hes going, he looks down and lets his feet do the leading. He puts on his Walkman and puts in a Linkin Park CD- Reanimation. He listens to it, fury rising in his veigns, thinking back, recalling bad memories. then something hits him on the back of the head. Some punks in a porshe were throwing beer bottles at him. He runs up to them and punches the one who threw the beer bottle first. He then turns his sights on the guy next to him and knocks him out with a blow to the stomache. He turns away after have won the fight, looks up and sees a sign, saying welcome to the town. He walks into town and notices he is in a place called "the slums" he starts walking around, his walkman now put away in his pocket, and his chocolate bar half eaten. He notices gunshots filling the air, notices screaming and robbers running past him running from the cops. He does nothing but walk, his feet guiding him to the heart of the town, when he hears a womans scream, and decides to take over his feet, running to the location of the sound.

OOC: TU- I'm not entirely sure where they are either. ^^; I'm pretty sure Julian was trying to get as far away from that alley as possible when he ran into Adrienne. But if he was facing her with his back to the direction he'd come from, when she ran past him and he followed then, yeah, they're most likely closer to the alley than where they were before, meaning yes, closer to Metrean. Whoo! But no, Julian didn't push Metrean aside, that was just some random kid. Heh. Feel free to jump in, but remember that some time ago the alethiometer told Tracy she'd be powerless to stop the loss of it.
Lawrence - I don't think your description of the Slums is quite what we're seeing. It's part of the city of Oxford in England, not a singular town. ( To know more about Oxford you'd have to have read His Dark Materials ... Oxford isn't exactly modern, so no Mars, Walkmans, Linkin Park, etc. ) Also, what is your character's dæmon? And whose scream did he hear? As well as that you're posting in present tense, which is against the rules - this is a past tense roleplay. I think you need to know a little more about this RP before you join. And when you do, I'd advice starting in the RPG thread.

(OOC: Okay, just making sure)
"The white haired girl and the boy with the sand cat daemon left the house. I'm not sure which way the white haired girl went. But, the boy went opposite of the way I went."
"That's better. Oh, and just so you know, the white-haired girl, I'm a new friend of hers, and if I find out you had a part in the fight..."
He moved so fast it was near impossible to see. He drew out his sword and had it mere centimeters away from the girl's face in less than a second.
"...you'll be next."
He silently sheathed the sword and began to walk away.
Suddenly Thayndriar thought to him, Quickly, I just heard something. It's close by. Maybe it's him...
He smiled.
"Good. I didn't want to have to wait."
He walked off in the general direction, his dæmon as his guide.

That's better. Oh, and just so you know, the white-haired girl, I'm a new friend of hers, and if I find out you had a part in the fight..."
Lindy blinked and she saw the sharp edge of the boy's sword, only centemiter's away from her face. She gasped and staggered backward's from the blade. The boy sheathed his sword again.
...you'll be next.
He added ominously before walking away. Beauet hissed malevolently at the boy and his daemon while they dissapeared into a crowd of people buisly getting home or last minute task's done.
Beauet....What are we going to do? Lindy said to her caracal daemon, still staring at the spot where the boy had left. We can't do anything.... he replied, mentally, his voice fading off.
