Looking out to more experienced* daemons to give me some advice. We just got back from a four-day trip to New Brunswick, by car of course, meaning thirty-two hours total in a rickety vehicle. Also, the maritimes hate us so it was raining. emily's fahja is a total psycho behind the wheel, and the maj is completely spastic as a passenger, and it was pouring, and dark, and we were skidding and couldn't see and ended up going the wrong way on an on-ramp (file under: ways to get killed really speedy!). Needless to say, my dear emilita fajita was terrified (Human's input: just for the record, I was surprisingly not afraid to die, just of decapitation/face removal. For the record, is all.) Morbid, that one. Anyway: and I didn't know exactly what to say to make her calm! the! frig! down! and stop! hyperventilating! She was shaking and gasping, and nary a paper bag in sight! She doesn't get like that often, perhaps I'm just not used to it.
Ah, the elusive point! What do you all do when your people are frrrreaking out with a capital 'frrrrr'?
(*I mean of course, at being heeded, not at being daemons. That's silly.)

Remind her of how it could be worse, then cuddle and stroek as much as i can to make her comfortable. Making your human comfortable usually works best. Nice singing, rubbing, being furry or smooth usually helps.....and some reassurance that it could be worse and that safety isn't far away. Thats always worked for me. And when that doesn't work, hei yells at me. X( But I'm terribly sorry about that experience....it sounds pretty scary...

Ah yelling: always a possibiliy.
Thanks. I always feel like there's some sort of magic thing a daemon should be able to say to make things perfect, even if emily is telling me being there is enough. Although I never thought of singing, I'll keep it in mind.Aha thanks, it was kind of alarming. (:

An on-ramp? Am I missing something? Whats an on-ramp? Like, on a highway? Or.....yeah....
*shoves human out of forum*
I alternate between talking sweetly and screaming. Both are effective. Biting her also works. Dunno how. Also, if she has a pain somewhere in her body, I'll bite her where it huts and it feels better. Not quite sure how that works...

I laugh. I'd laugh at her for being a pansy. then she'd smack me. But she'd be feeling better.

An on-ramp is the bit of road connecting the highway to a regular road where you pick up speed before joining traffic. I.e. not something you want to be heading the wrong way on. U-turn ahoy!

Hmm... never happened before, so I'm not sure how I'd do it. Reassurance I'd try first.
