Allow me to begin with the statement that I do not like the word 'cieday'. There are several reasons behind this.
One is that it is pronounced 'kieday' while it appears deceptively like 'sieday', cousing mispronounciation.
But the main reason is that 'cie' strands for 'come into existance', and this is completely and totally wrong.
A daemon's cieday is the day said daemon's person realizes hei or shei exists. I existed long before Celestine ever saw me. I have existed for as long as she has. 'come into existance day' makes it seem as if we daemons only *are* when our humans awknowledge us. In fact, it even makes it sound like it was their seeing us that caused us to exist--almost as if our humans 'imagined us' or 'thought us up'.
Not only is this degrading, it is handing a loaded gun to anyone out to prove all daemions are confused. So I propose a new name for the same day--OEday. It is obviously in the same family as SFday--that is, the daemon family--and far more accurate. OE stands for 'opened eyes'. In fact, any variety of names would work--EOday (eyes opened day) ADday (awknowledged daemon day) or FSday (found soul day). Even STLday (seen the light day) would be preferable over 'come into existance day'.
I admit I do not know wether you will greet this proposal with scorn, agreement, or even amusement, but all responses are welcome.

It seems to me you're making a fuss about a small thing. I like the term cieday.

I think he's got a point. I really could care less about how it's pronounced, but everything else makes sense. I'm going to sit this one out, though, because wei've never used the term "cieday" to begin with. For us it would be a ciemonth, so why not just go ahead and say "I found him in August"?

Wait, it's not pronounced 'See-day'? o.o Crap. Oh, well. Zephy and I still say 'day-mon'. ^-^; I'm siding with Phil on this one. *scoots over* Although we have more of a cieweek than anything.

I knew someone was gonna make a fuss eventually. XD Jeez. I thought of other terms, but they all sounded silly. 'Met Ones Daemon Day' would be mod day. 'Met Your Daemon Day' would be myd day... Any daemian knows better than to think, "Oh, it's short for Came Into Existence, so my daemon must not have existed until this moment! OMG!" I don't mean it literally, and the definition explains that. =/ Your daemon may have come into existence the day you were born, but for you... their cieday is the day their existence, their presence, was realized by you, or close to it. (Realized Ones Daemon... Rod-day. Again, stupid.) The term for cieday popped into my head, and I kinda liked the way it sounded. I checked with a fellow daemian, and he thought it was fine, too. And there you have it.
In my opinion, OEday sounds odd, and ADday makes me think of ADD. >>
EDIT: Besides, the term makes me smile, because I think of it as more like... the day a person's personal relationship with their daemon came into being. One day that voice was just your conscience, but the next... there's that animal form beside you, their voice now a distinct part of you.

*looks around* I dunno, Loki and I kinda like Rod-day. It sounds funny. << Sorry that was so pointless. I just had to say it.

Personally I don't think there's really an issue since quite a few people are like me and pronounce it as see-day which makes perfect sense to me since it's the day I first saw. I didn't realise that it meant "coming-into-existence day" for a year and I just thought it was a snazzy way of writing 'see.' (Ok, so I did know originally but I forgot after reading the term ^.^)
I know it's probably a bother that we all pronounce things differently (I say day-mon too since 'demon' has too many connotations) but it's rather unavoidable considering that we all come from all over the planet, our different accents probably make words pronounced quite differently to start with.
*Shrug* I can see why you're bothered about it, but trust me- provided you don't go around yelling your devotion to your daemon then you'll rarely run into anyone who doesn't agree with your beliefs (In my... year and a half or so of being at TDF we've never had a member that really disagrees, 'cept probably Ghost- but she wouldn't worry about a petty grammatical word misusage ^.^). If it's really an issue then we'd just have to change it to see-day since all these abbreviations don't seem to work too well ^_~

If you don't like it, don't use it. I just say happy birthday on the day, and refer to it as 'that day we met.'

You know, I've never questioned 'cieday'. Now the other terms on the site (o'kah? What the ****?), I have.
Sure, I existed before December 28th, 2003, but my relationship with Drew began then. That's what I felt the 'cie' bit refered to.
Anyway, I think we should keep the term and dump all those other ones.
Also, I thought it was said, "sy-day".

All right. General opinions found. Subject dropped.
Apologies for getting Okibi defensive.

I've gone from calling it 'that day we met' to 'that day svipur got all clingy and hasn't taken a hint since.' I'm mature!

XDD Actually, that's not true, because I'm the clingy one in our relationship. >_< But right after I said that, I caught a whiff of his smell (it's a good smell....) so that's kind of creepy. >_>
