can a daemon help you envision things? For instance, I think wings are really cool. Feathered wings. (Laugh at me if you want) So I just pretended for a moment that I had these big feathered wings coming out of my shoulder blades. And for a second, I felt like I really did. Was my daemon helping make the wings more real for me? Did they become the wings? If they can take any form, why not a bunch of feathers?
Also, what do you think daemons are made of? I know they're not tangible, but do you believe in a Dust-like substance?
If our daemons were corporeal, we could not go anywhere where they couldn't fit. So what happens when you go somewhere too small for your daemon to fit? Does your projected image of him/her collapse itself? I'm talking strictly about the projected image here, I know they're really inside of us. Also, how do daemons walk, fly, embrace us, etc, when they're really inside us? Are they helping to project themselves?
I've tried talking to my daemon and it's not very clear. I feel my mental voice echoing a bit, like it's bouncing off a wall, and then I hear a lot of staticky communication I just can't make out. I tell him, "I'm sorry, I can't understand you!" and give up for a while. Any help?

I dont know if a daemon can help you envision things, but I too love wings. Im getting a tatoo of wings on my back for my birthday. As for talking to your daemon, I cant talk to mine either,at least not on a regular basis. I dont know whats different about us. I get ...feelings occasionally. I sometimes know what he looks like, but Im never sure anymore. Its like something has changed since I found him.Like it became less about being with him, and more like a race or...I dont know. Hes a bit lost on me really. But i try. Ill try to explain , its like ( in a different thread I mentioned this but it seems I was the only one with this expirience. Maybe itll help you) Its like I was estranged from my deamon in my childhood, I know all of us never knew our daemons, but I feel mine was more severe than that. Most people have stories about imaginary friends and how they sort of knew all along. I have come to know my daemon as well as I can over several years, and we are very different. Its like Ive been living in a cage all my life, and hes the wild heart ( see my quote on the left) and when I met him, it wasnt...instant enlightenment or anything, but he has always pushed my buttons, and pointed out the truth about every situation, which was hurtful for awhile. But now Ive grown up alot and sortof become who i think im supposed to be, and its like... Im not sure if Im making sense, but the point is, he always was who i am now, and .. I guess also that somebody got something out of this.

Interesting question, Amelia. But somehow I don't think daemons can really become a pile of feathers. Maybe you could visualize them doing so, though. I think it is possible that your daemon was helping you visualize your wings. Rano helps me with that kindof stuff sometimes.
I can tell you that Rano becomes something smaller when wei go into small spaces, or becomes an animal better suited for the conditions wei are in. Like when wei swim, i like diving down and going as far as I can, rano is usually a cat or something similar, so he beomes a porpoise, or otter, or any other aquatic animal. Rano mostly projects himself. He uses my ablility to imagine things by my side, and puts it to work to show him. Of course there is a difference between projecting something and paying attention to the projection. A lot of times I don't see him because I'm paying attention to something else. Rano will hug me or climb on me during the day a lot. Even if he physically doing the action, it's almost the same. If you got a hug from a body that was in the shape of your daemon, but just a hollow shell, which do you think would feel better?
As for the communication thing.... I really don't know what to say. Possibly you are trying too hard to hear your daemon. If you ask a question in your head, just relax and wait for the answer to come to you. Maybe time is all that is needed.
What do I think daemons are made of? Well, I have no idea. But I do believe in a dust-like substance. In TSK Dr. Malone was talking about how in 'our' world dust was called dark matter. We've got dark matter. Dark matter is what scientists call the extra mass that just has to be there because they are absolutely right in their calculations that the universe is a certain weight. (that was kinda sarcastic btw)The only problem is, there isn't enough mass to make it weigh that much. So dark matter is the mass that's missing. I'm not sure if it's the same stuff, but it is interesing.
I'm horrible at explaining things, so I hope that this made a little sense.

what about when they settle though? Then they can't change to become something smaller.

There are two simple answers for that. If Okibi was in a crammed space that I couldn't "fit into," she would either stop envisioning me, or imagine me as something small enough. Even when I settle, my human still has creativity and imagination. She can see me as an animal I'm not if it's convenient. 'Course, I would only be envisioned as a mouse or whatever until there was enough room once again.

I also was never one to have an imaginary friend, so ouir communication is about the same way....its more in frazzled feelings than words, and when we DO chat, its pretty brief. I ask a question and get a strong feeling back as to what I should do.....sometimes Tyb just doesn't feel a need to put into words what he feels. Its not weird, some people just communicate differently than others. Its not just you. But the wing things, I never had an imaginary friend, but I remember imagining things like that for myself, and it really did feel like they were there. Perhpas Tyb was just helping me to see them, or feel them rather, but either way it felt natural and nice. I liked it. I still do it to this day when I'm feeling particularly imaginative. As for small spaces, Tyb settled as a pretty large bird, and usually flies above people's heads when there isn't enough room, but if there isn't even room for THAT, he just hops back inside myself. Its a pretty simple solution, but it works. And hei doesn't mind much. And when he embraces me, its like what you said with the wing things, I FEEL IT, even though it isn't physical. Like a sort of warm tingle, I can imagine the feel of his smooth feathers on my skin, even though it isn't there. Its hard to explain, but since you've felt the wings, you know what a nice warm tinglish feeling it is. I hope I helped a little bit Amelia!

Yes, I think alot people will understand the feeling part. I get odd shivers that I m just understanding now are connnected with him. Like something he does or happens to him and I indirectly expirience it too

I was lying on the couch a few nights ago - face turned toward the cushions; comfortable except for the chilly air from the a/c hitting my exposed back. Rookie became his black griffin form and laid up against me. (This wouldn't be physically possible considering the available space, but that's just another example of dæmons modifying their visual selves when necessary.) Rookie spread a large feathered wing over my body, and once it was actually resting on my side... my shivering ceased. I didn't feel cold any longer. I truly noticed a tingle of warmth (as SNLObsess put it) moving throughout my limbs, as if Rookie's body heat was affecting me.
And even more importantly... his act of kindness made me feel like I was protected from anything and everything - completely sheltered from the world if need be. With Rookie's dark wing right above me, it was as though I never needed to be fretful ever again, because he will look after me.
If you're having trouble deciphering your dæmon's exact words, you may wish to try being silent for a time. Just imagine him near you... let his love for you reflect in his actions and just the way he looks at you. Let his mere presence comfort you. Once you understand who your dæmon is, and what just knowing him means to you... communicating in words should be easier.
That's my advice for the day. =P

I have a black salamander on my lower back, and then just below that I have a double North West American Indian dog design. All of them have special meaning to me, and I got all 3 done when I was travelling in the USA.

I live in a small town, so I don't usually have to deal with little places. I hate being inside. I'm not claustrophobic, I just prefer the outside.
I plan to get a tatoo when I'm older. I'm going for Japanese symbols.

I read a funny story about Japanese symbol tatoos in blunt, non-S.A. people wouldn't understand.

I think learning to see your dæmon can really help with envisioning things. Very often, in class, I "create" a second desk beside me that Darkett's human form sits in, complete with notebooks and pencils. It's great fun.
Though I've never had trouble speaking with my dæmon, I'll try to help as best I can. I'd advise to go somewhere quiet and think "Hello" or something similar, and see what thoughts come into your head. Try to make your mind as blank as possible (which is harder than it sounds) and, like Will with the Knife, don't try too hard.
Tattoos are cool. ^^ I want to get a stylized raven on my left shoulder, for Darkett, as much as for my name.

Hmmm....well, as for the small spaces I can't really tell you about that. I have trouble keeping up a projected mental image, though when I do I know exactly where he's at. Plus Kami isn't too big, he's a mongoose and can usually stay close to me or curl in a ball.
And for hearing him....well I have to agree with Okibi, just stay silent. When I talk to Kami he just seems to have an answer immediately, though sometimes it takes me time to process. That's when I change it to my voice and he gets a bit annoyed. Actually....he's glaring at me right now for reminding him that I do that. He can read. Extremely well. He listens to my conversations. ~runs away and hides~
