Hi, I know this topic has probably been exhausted so thoroughly in one form or another that you're all tired of hearing about it, so I apologize in advance. Anyway, I have a friend who has just finished His Dark Materials, and who really wants to know her dæmon. I feel like I should tell her what I have learned about my dæmon and dæmons in general, or at least send her here or to Okibi's site, but I have no clue how to bring it up. I suppose the next time she talks about wanting to know her dæmon, I could say something about it, but what exactly would I say? Thanks.

I would try mentioning this site over AIM or whatever primary means of non-face-to-face communication you use, on an off note like "I found this really weird site", and give the URL. If they seem uninterested, drop it, but if they express interest you should break it that you are a dæmain to them. Oh, and welcome, new one! Oh, and this topic hasn't been canvassed THAT throughly yet!

Or, maybe you should just bring it up, like "Are you still curious about dæmons?" and " I found this website all about it..." I think straight forward is best.

I wouldn't, considering we just lost one of our numbers when their parents found out about them being a dæmain.

This is a very different situation. Anyways if you told her you believed in dæmons and she decided to drop you as a friend, well, how close could you guys have really been?

I'd say go for a straightforward approach. Especially since if she acts strange about it, or if she starts acting strange towards you, then she shouldn't really be considered a friend, you see?
I'm actually going to get my friend to read HDM and give him this URL and try to get him into stuff, even though he probably won't even bother doing anything past think up a SN. I'm gonna go straightforward, and hope for the best.
Once again, I say dive head on.

I've managed to get 3 people into it, only to have them sort of...loose interest. One, I hear, never really believed in daemons. He only came here because he had a crush on me. (I think he was mildly interested at the least.) The other member doesn't come here anymore, but she comments about her daemon sometimes. The last doesn't come much, but she talks to her daemon a lot. (so I guess she really didn't loose interest in daemons, just this forum)
None one I talked to about daemons thinks I'm insane, so that is good. I don't want to be sent to a mental institution any time soon. Though I might for other reasons. Seems scary, but it's not. What I'm scared of is what I'd have to do to be put in one. But this isn't ment to be in this thread, so I'll quit rambling and put it somewhere else perhaps.

Although this further drives the thread off topic.... Don't ever let them take you to a mental institute, they are horrible places, and actually make many people's problems worse. This can be illustrated by an experiment done by 12 perfectly sane psychology students, they checked into a mental institute on a false premise, and once they all left a month or so later all of them had pschological problems!

Oh, creepy. I think that happened with a 'friend' of mine. Well, she really did have mental problems, but now she's worse...They wouldn't let her wear a bra...But yes this is getting off topic. So...
Anywho, my advice to someone is to bring up the subject about how some people talk to their daemons, then, if they seem interested in it (won't think you are insane) tell them how you are in contact with your daemon and let it go from there.

I was about to post this thread....
Anyway, the only place I've ever told people about dæmons is on message boards. I've thought about telling others, but...well...
By the way, is there ever any e-mails sent here, say, with announcements? You see, I'm using my mother's e-mail address, and she doesn't know...

Steph: She got sent there for cutting, among other things, and she was wearing an underwire bra, so they claimed that she may be able to get the wire out and cut herself with it.
EvilMonkey: Only if you click the box that says 'check this if you wish to be notified of replies to this topic.' will you be emailed anything. Other than that, no. At least I've never gotten anything such as that from here.
