What if there was a large daemon that couldn't fit into a place where his human had to go? I suppose it would be burdensome.

My dæmon makes a smaller form of himself in we're in crowds and he sits on my head ^-^ So he's not really a burden

Well, this subject has been touched upon in a different thread...I think the thread in question is so old it's on another page. People usually say that they don't invision their daemon at that time, or the daemon becomes something smaller, or, like Spiral said, ride on thier human. I remember my daemon-self takes the form of a dragon, and while she was here, she'd shrink to fit in tight spaces. I laughed when she'd try to fit her humongous self into buildings and such. That was before I told her to shrink to make things easier.

Hm, I was thinking about like in Lyra's world, when they're solid and physical.

They'd have to settle as it to be a real problem, I guess you mean like the guy who's dæmon settled as a dolphin so he could never leave the water... that would be a problem....

That would be a problem. Luckily, I don't have to think of that.

When I'm swimming, Darkett becomes an orca (killer whale). Male orcas are about 30 feet long, but he shrinks it down to ten feet. In The Golden Compass (Northern Lights), Pan becomes "a dragon ... the size of a deerhound". The point of these anecdotes is: If their soul matched that of an orca/dragon/elephant/large animal very well, they'd accomodate it.
EDIT (additional thought): In Lyra's world, buildings are spacious. If they had cars or airplanes.. or even office cubicles, they'd make room for the dæmon. Nothing would be compact in that world.

My daemon, Aurora, is -mostly- a dragon, but always a small one, about seven feet total length... so she can squeeze just about anywhere even if she doesn't change form. ^.^

I suppose the person would feel very uncomfortable in that place. I don't know how much of a burden it'd be, as I am not accustomed to living in Lyra's world. Kir is a smaller daemon and so I can imagine him comfortably just about anywhere. You have a good point, but I suppose there would be accommadations for such situations, as otherwise it would be a major problem for lots of people.

Also in Lyra's world, there were never any really big daemons. The largest we saw was Lord Asriel's snow leopard, that one African man's cheetah, and once Pan become a lion in Golden Compass. So probably in Lyra's world, daemons settle purposefully into smaller creatures, but probably buildings and things are much more spacious, to allow for daemons. Kayla's never been anything large, so I've never had a space problem with him. He just rides my shoulder or in the hood of my jackets/hoodies, and it's alright.
