i dunno if there has been a thread about this before since i'm new but i'm making this anyway How do you think dæmons are born? Does the female dæmon become pregnant at the same time as the human or.. what? do they just get created with the baby? i dunno.. i was just wondering what everyone else thought ;D

I, myself, don't really care to speculate. Dæmons just are, and that's as far as I'd like to go.

I'd always assumed they just kind of...materialized, I guess. I really have no idea.

I put my thoughts in my FAQ, since this question is asked quite a lot:
A dæmon isn't born from another dæmon... A person's physical characteristics are determined by gene shuffling from both the parents, sure, but it's not the same way with the child's dæmon, because he or she is not merely a physical extension like an arm or leg... Your soul is something unique to you, and it's not really another soul that gives birth to it. You mold and shape your own self, nature, and personality. (It's true that circumstances might make you feel a certain way at certain times, but I don't believe it affects your true essence.) No one else can "create" your soul, even when you're too young to have complete consciousness.
I've always imagined that the dæmon doesn't have a clear shape until the baby's consciousness fully develops. (The ability to feel, think, and react, that is.) So the dæmon wouldn't appear automatically, but still rather early on, such as around their third month of life... Before then, the baby still has a soul, so maybe the dæmon is just visible as some vague form always nearby.
And the dæmon's first form...? It probably just reflects however the child feels at the moment.
---
..Or it's just some random, young animal. I don't really know what would determine an infant's dæmon's forms.
No matter how it happens, though, I think the idea of dæmons mating and getting pregnant ridiculous. o.O

Well, when people die in the HDM books the daemons just vanish, they don't have a corpse, so they probably just appear when you're born.

And I don't think that would work daemons mating and all, like a mouse and a cat talk about some wierd combos.

No matter how it happens, though, I think the idea of dæmons mating and getting pregnant ridiculous. o.O Especially since the mother's dæmon would probably be male. If that was already posted, sorry. I didn't read past Okibi's post.

Exactly why it wouldn't work. The guys would know if the child was thiers because their daemon would be pregnant if it was. *speculates* It is a funny thought though.

I bet there'd be a lot of folklore and myth there too. You know like ' the stork will be bringing the baby soon' , I wonder if there would be something like that for when the babys daemon would materialize. Also I bet there would be old wives tales and superstitious things , maybe even religious things, celebrations. Im getting a cute little anime japanese scene in my head involving a baby and an adorable little daemon blob beside it. Hee ^_^
