I have noclue what the hell this is, it just came to me.
No one knew why Thomas hated his daemon--not even Thomas himself. Though needless to say he was talked about. It was, more or less, unheard of for someone--especially a 12 year old boy--to hate their daemon. He was feared by most and some considered him worse than a 'cut', daemonless child. He was an angry, intolerant and no doubt emotionally disturbed boy, often seen angrily walking the town as far away from the daemon as he could. Sometimes Thomas would jerk away from his daemon to cause them pain, and on a few occasionas Quedilla would do the same to Thomas.
Quedilla tried to be a good daemon to Thomas but it was impossible. Thomas's hate and bitterness was unbearable and contagious, and soon Quedilla was infected. She, too, was looked down on by other daemons. After all, daemons were supposed to love their humans unconditionally. But no daemon was stuck with someone like Thomas. It was easy for them to say unconditional love, Quedilla thought, having at least semi-normal humans. But she couldn't even convince herself that it was acceptable, even with someone like Thomas and felt the most extreme sense of failure one couldhave.
Many theorieswere made as to why Thomas hated his daemon. Some hildren with same-sex daemons would feel depressed and alienated, labeled 'freaks'. But this was not the case with Thomas,as he and Quedilla had different genders. So, of course, family was the root of all rumors. Despite coming from a happy, respectable lower-middle class family, parental problems were the main theme in rumors.
Thomas had three other siblings--an older sister at 16, Sarah, who was a well-rounded girl; an older sister, Jacob, 14, who did will in sports and a younger brother, Russel, age 4. Jacob and Sarah tried to deny or ignore their relation with Thomas but it was often no use and often resulted in problems. Russel started showing signs of daemon-hate because naturally Thomas got all the attention. Thomas's parents feared him and both turned toalcohol, encouraging the rumors. However, it was because of Thomas that his parents were so troubled, and not because of hisparents that he was so troubled.
Thomas sat in a corner of his room with a knife in his hand. Quedilla lay on the other side of the room, a cat, swishing her tail. She wondered what fun things Thomas had planned with the knife now. He wouldoften abuse andharm himself to cause Quedilla pain. It gave Thomas a schadenfreude pleasure. Neither would say anything or show any pain during these episodes, not wanting to give each other pleasure.
Thomas was muttering something and chuckling evilly now. Quedilla knew to ignoreit--it wasn't anythingworth caring about. She rolledoveronher side.
"I'm gonna kill us," Thomas said.
She rolled over on her back and let out a nonchalant purr.
"I'm gonna kill us," Thomas repeated "because YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING." Thomas rasn over and kicked his daemon--the only time he would ever make contactwith her was to kick her. "YOU NEVER HELPED ME. YOU NEVER EVEN TRIED." He kept kicking her without mercy, and then Quedillaleapt up, knocking Thomas down. He screamed. One slash, left-to-right in the abdomen...then an upward incision...
Thomas screamed again, started sobbing--he never showed emotion or feeling like this before. Quedilla didn't scream, sob--in fact, she wasn't feeling anything at all (except a certain pleasure). There was no more connection, no bond between Quedilla and Thomas.
Another slash. Quedilla put all her strength into this one--a slice from ear to ear, with enough force to nearly decapitate Thomas...
And then they were both gone.
