Due to the problems some people have been having regarding large images on the forum, I thought I'd do a quick tutorial.
Download and install IrfanView. When it asks about the E-bay toolbar during install, it's probably best to say no.
Anyway, you can load it up from the start menu. Then press the open Icon, and locate some image to resize. I've used this beautiful picture of a wolf to demonstrate.
As you can see, it's pretty big. So to resize it, press Ctrl+R (that is, hold the Control key, and press R). It'll bring up a dialog looking something like this:
It may look complicated, but honestly it's not.
Firstly, make sure Resample is set, like in the picture. Resize gives a poorer quality.
Then it's simply a case of typing the size you want. For easier resizing, click half to make it half size. You can keep clicking to make it smaller and smaller. You can also use the "set size as percentage of original" if you don't know the exact size you want your image to be.
In fact, if you click the "Preserve aspect ratio" (that means the image doesn't get squashed and look ugly), you can just type in 130 in the height, it'll set the width for you. And then you'll conform to the "SNLObssess standard" hee.
When you've got what you want (you can always press Ctrl+Z to undo the resize). You need to save it. Press Ctrl+S and type in a file name. You also have the option of choosing the type. Set it to JPG, that should do mostly. Also check "Show options" so that an options dialog comes up. In general, use these settings:
And hey presto. One resized image. I think that covers it. Any problems, shout and I'll edit this tutorial. Sorry if it's a bit "technically written", not my fault, just my nature ;D
Once you've resized your image you can use this tutorial of mine to find out where to put it on the web so you can display it on this forum ;D
Can a mod sticky this please? Cheers.
