Many thanks to SNLObsess (Ali) for writing the rules/guidelines. ;D
-----
All places need rules. And all rules are, in essence, guidelines. These rules are by no means meant to restrain roleplay.
Keep in mind that as of now, if anyone has any ideas as far as general rules and regulations of the roleplay that they post them here. Keep in mind that ultimately it has to be fair.
~The gist of it all:
The roleplay is intended for an audience of thirteen and up for (minor) cursing, some suggestive sexual content and explicit scenes of violence. Your own level of maturity dictates whether or not you are ready to read or participate in the roleplay, be it if you are age ten or age ninety. To each his own.
~Rules:
Basically, rules will be enforced by either the owner of the board (Okibi), or the Moderator of this topic, (SNLObsess). [Any mod of other forums also has a say.] Break the rules, you'll get a warning and be expected to change your post to fit the guidelines. Ignoring the warning and the rules over the span of a week, or repeat offenses will be dealt with accordingly, and the Mod is not at all squeamish with post deletion. [Nor are the admins, for that matter.]
The same applies to posts comprised entirely of OOC (out of character) talk. OOC is not forbidden in the roleplay, but try to keep the length of your rp post longer than the OOC. [If there is an express need to make a post that is completely OOC, the Mods will allow it to remain for 24 hours, or until the person that needs to see it has seen it. Then it will be deleted.]
Any posts in this part of the forum must reside either in here or the roleplay itself. Anyone who wishes to post a topic with concerns and such regarding the roleplay must post in the General Discussion forum. Any new topics in the forum or posts not relating in any way to the roleplay will be deleted.
Though there should be no need to say this: Be mature and respectful to the other Players.
Any player who is rude or offensive (ie name calling, heckling, rude behavior) outside of the roleplay ( OOC ) will be warned, and if necessary, their post will be edited to remove the offensive material. Some good advice is to treat others on the forums as you would if you met a stranger on the street. Politeness is always awesome.
Keep in mind that though roleplay can be carefully crafted, devised, thought out, planned, etc ahead of time, there will always be pit-falls, plot twists and unexpected happenings. Think on your feet. Not all things will turn out the way once thought out. Any player who has complaints relating to this portion will be redirected to review this as a memory refresher, and beset upon by the Mod.
[To go along with this, it is all right to plan certain instances between characters ahead of time, particularly with other players. For the sake of spontenaity, obviously, don't plan too tediously or too far ahead. That defeats the purpose. Also, plans can be kept secret, but it is probably best to inform other characters if you feel the plan will closely affect them, as well.]
Try to keep cursing to a minimum and only when necessary. Asterisks (*) may be used in place of letters in necessary words to ease the frail consience of the player in question. Any serious cursing without asterisks either should or must be changed to fit the audience (IE, you curse it, your change it. Play it safe).
I shouldn't have to say this, but graphic depictions of sexually related situations are expressly forbidden, as is the writing of lemons (pornographic stories). Hints and general PDA is allowed. It will probably be about a bunch of teenagers after all.
Try to keep exact details pertaining to explicit acts of violence to a minimum. By now it's been established that there's nothing innately wrong with killing off NPCs, but try to keep the plot value in there somewhere. If you should have any doubts about how graphic a scene is, tone it down.
Any fighting, dueling or games will be turn-based. Many here are familiar with playing one-another's characters and providing actions for them, in combative situation this 'Character Share' will not be allowed. Only the player who owns the specific character in question will be allowed to play them, for fairness' sake.
You may ignore actions of other characters to a certain degree (ie, not seen). Try not to constantly ignore. The roleplay is an open environment, and we need not discourage other players. If your character is constantly being ignored, try to vary your level of interaction with other players' characters. No one should feel as though they're constantly being ignored, and if they are, the problem will be adressed as the Owner or the Mod sees fit. Constant ignoring of actions by certain parties will not be tolerated. [To go along with this, be sure to read posts thoroughly, whether or not you think they pretain to you. Someone may mention your character at the very end, but if you don't finish reading the post, they'll assume you're ignoring them.]
Try to keep a sense of realism in the RP. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and if an action relates to your character directly, you must respond to it before responding to indirect action.
Any amount of NPCs may be disposed of at one time, but characters integral to the plot (those created by the players) cannot be killed unless it is the expressed desire of the Player Who Created the Character. If the player does not wish for death, don't give it, simple.
Character Resurrection is Forbidden. [So don't kill off a character unless you're really sure it's necessary. If in doubt, send them to somewhere else so there's still the chance to bring them back.]
[Regarding signatures. Pictures should be no larger than 100 pixels high and 500 pixels wide (just for the sake of aesthetics, space, etc.). Also, don't make a long tirade out of it. A few sentences should be enough.]
~Characters and Character Creation:
Invulnerable/god-like characters are not permitted, unless they are necessary for a storyline. They may in no way be used as a permanent character, nor participate in combat. Play it fair.
Please keep your abilities reasonable for your character.
Players are only allowed to have Four characters at any given time. You can have as many as you want made up, but only four at a time will be posted about on the board. If you grow tired of a character and want to change them with another, they must have a relatively permanant reason for leaving in the middle of the roleplay. However, constant character exchange is not allowed, as it is highly annoying and very confusing. Try not to add new characters in all at once or right after the other. Let other players' characters interact with the new character and establish them as a different person. I can't for the life of me recite any of the new main characters suddenly flooding the roleplay at the moment. [And remember, four is the max. Personally, I would reccomend two. You get variety, but don't confuse people.]
NPCs are unlimited. Keep in mind that they will probably be forgotten about by everyone except their creator, and their creator cannot make them part of their regular 'arsenal'. If they're not forgotten about, then hooray, a regular NPC.
~Advice:
Try to be as detailed as possible. There is no such thing as being too descriptive in roleplay. Any one-sentance posts will be deleted and the player responsible warned. [Also, try not to write novels. Every now and then is acceptable, but to be quite honest, sometimes my attention span ends before some posts do. Just keep that in mind.]
If uncertain of the appearance of a character, look up their profile, or if one isn't available, ask the player of that character.
Try not to make a new character really specialized at any one thing, and allow them to grow within the environment the roleplay creates.
Remember, no controlling other characters without permission (be sure to mention you have permission OOC), and when reacting to another character's dialogue be sure to add it in your post in italics. Any questions, and you're good to go!
Edit: One important thing Cat reminded me of is that there will be no asterisk actions - meaning do not write your character's actions in the present tense using *'s. (e.g. *He grins*) We're trying to make this a formal roleplay game, so you must write correctly and in paragraph form, so use the past tense. This isn't a chat room.
