(OOC: I'll give the RPG an official name once this thing gets a-rollin. Good luck everyone, and STICK TO THE RULES!)
It had been a typical October afternoon. Sundays were always done, the streets were filled with rain puddles and wet people, umbrellas and exhausted workers. The street vendors were all closed, probably huddled in some safe room in the back with a nice heater and happy thoughts. It was the kind of day one would want to be inside during, with a hot tea and biscuits. However, Keene was not so lucky.
He had spent his morning desperately searching the city high and low for an answer. Not the spiritually-deep life-changing anser, but the kind of answer only a very bored professor would ask his students to discover over the break. Its answer did not interest Keene or his daemon, instead they were only interesting in figuring out how to get back to their bed fastest.
Lekeita had a pained look of distraught unhappiness plastered on her face. She frowned down, the face being reflected in the puddles under her feet. "Keene--its getting late....my feet are tired, can't we go back to the house now?"
Her human sighed heavily. "Eventually. Give me a chance, Kei, there's no one in this bloody city that knows a thing about anything....."
"First that didn't make sense. Secondly we should wait until tomorrow to poll everyone in the city about the North, Third your professor is an old coot, and Finally my feet aren't getting better and I'm soaked up to my legs. You'll get a cold if we stay out any longer!"
But Keene did not listen to the advice his daemon gave him. Hei turned and sat on a bench underneath a tree on the sidewalk, laying his head on his hands. Lekeita came close and sat at his feet, unhappily staring at him. "You aren't getting anywhere, Keene. We NEED to go home NOW" she said with a slight snarl. The only sound on the quiet street now was only that of pattering raindrops. Keene sighed.
"I'm not ready to go back yet" he said, pulling a book out of his side bag. "I don't feel like going back home yet". His daemon rolled her eyes and lay down on top of his wet, soaked shoes, staring up at him. "Your'e useless, Keene" shei said, finally getting a chance to get off of her paws.
Keene only smiled and stared upward at the branches in the tree, trying to figure out how long he should stall before his daemon got agitated enough to attempt to drag him out of the pouring rain and back home.
(OOC: You know the rules, keep up the story, and lets have fun!)

Kaytalynn was under a tree, leaning on it for support. She was cold, she was wet, she was tired and hungry. All the street vendors were closed because of the stupid weather, and Reh had suggested waiting under the tree until the weather got a little better. So there she was, Rehka in the tree, on the look out for anything, and she under the tree fighting sleep. Events of the day flashed again in her head. Perhaps she needed to find a new town to hide in, they might find her any day now.
They must both have been very tired that day. A figure came, his cat daemon with him and sat on the wet bench. Reh, only noticing them when the boy spoke, quickly flew away to alert Kayt and hide in his usual spot, in the collar of her coat, near her neck. But as he took flight, his wings flapped noisily, the weather having made them wet. Kayt queezed her eyes closed, hoping the boy on the bench hadn't heard that. But it was useless to hope and pray, he probably did hear it.
Hope he's not one of them... they both thought. Casual. They needed to stay cool and casual and he wouldn't notice them.

Jenna was debating whether or not to go out in the rain. There was not a lot to gain from doing so, and she was not a particular rain-loving person. She just felt like doing something--not reading, for once. "Capt, do you want to go out?" She asked. "Sure. Not really. Maybe. I don't know." Her daemon replied. "It could be cold and unpleasant. Then again, it could also be cold and pleasant. Don't you still have homework?" "No." Then, she sighed. She was used to lying about such things as homework to get people to stop nagging her. It was a reflex. "I mean yes." "Wei're hopelessly indecisive, aren't wei?" Captiosus said. Jenna looked out her window. It was incredibly gloomy. Captiosus was a cat on the window sill, bored. "Wei're probably not going to go out today. We never do." Jenna said. "There's nowhere to go, anyway." "There are places. You just don't want to go." "Hm..." Jenna said. "You know, the chances of going out will increase if you get off your bed and walk out the door instead of sitting here talking about it." Capt said. "Fine." Jenna said. She slid off her bed, walked down the stairs and put on a trenchcoat-like coat. Capt turned into a huskey dog and they walked out the door. They immidiately regretted their decision but continued walking, making small talk, or Jenna would read as she walked as she often did. Jenna suddenly looked up. "Oy, there are people." Jenna said. "Go, J. Make friends." Capt pushed her leg. "Haha, very funny. Should we be heading back?" "No." Capt began tugging at the leg of her pants with his teeth. "Fine, fine. I'll go under the tree." Jenna said, part hoping to pass unnoticed and part hoping to have a bit of conversation with someone/

Tobias tucked a few long strands of chestnut brown hair behind his ear in a slower motion than the usual automatic gesture, for the scene before him was stealing every ounce of attention - making him oblivious even to the fact that the rebellious hair slid back into place, where it partially covered a navy blue iris. But past the strands, the teenage boy was staring in awe at autumn leaves of gold and orange dappled with sunlight, ornate stone seats decorated with the dry siblings of those above, a water fountain emitting a constant stream that gave the peaceful area a steady melody, and all sorts of flowers in blossom despite the unsympathetic weather.
With a content smile upon his lips, Tobias became certain that the Botanical Garden (when skipping a day of work) was as good a place as any to hide out. Just glancing around at the scenery gave him a feeling of peace that he hadn't known could exist in this busy town... so, hands in pockets, the boy decided to explore more of it. He began strolling down the main pathway, taking note of each unique patch of life that was breathing in the October air.
"You know Steve scares away all the customers with his fervent rants about Harold Bronning's novels..." his dæmon suddenly pointed out. The thickly coated black fox looked up at her human with bright emerald eyes, which were currently shining in amusement. "Whatever will he do without you there to convince them all he isn't insane?"
"I don't know," Tobias replied. He stopped for a moment as though to ponder this question. "...Nor do I particularly care." And with that revelation he continued his journey into the garden, making a turn for a more secluded section in the back. There they were greeted with a wide range of youthful trees: pines, sycamores, and beeches. As though in a trance, the boy strode up to the eldest beech and ran a palm down the smooth grey bark, admiring the texture.
As he began judging the force needed to help him reach the lowest branch, his dæmon made sure to tell him, "I'm no tree fox, Toby."
"Then stay right where you are, party pooper." The adolescent backed up half a dozen paces, and once he had a confident smirk to cheer him on, he charged straight for the base. A powerful lower body and a root for a step enabled him to propel himself up a couple of feet, but before a firm grip could be had on the nearest limb, gravity took its toll and tugged him back down - aiding him in banging a knee along the way.
"Hah! At least this 'party pooper' doesn't now have a bruise forming, m'dear," the fox dæmon stated as she laughed internally. Tobias instantly gave her a death glare while hissing in pain, but Vulpes' amusement promptly overshadowed the dull aching. It was always a great thing to have her make light of his stupidity. In truth, he'd feel more embarrassed every time if she didn't. So with a sigh and a dismissing wave to the devil tree, he passed by all the other ones and headed straight for a petite bridge. Once across, his eyes scanned the saplings and brown bushes on that end, but soon settled on a wooden seat under a low-branched tree.
Tobias paused in his step the moment his noticed it. The quaint little bench had nothing especially beautiful in its design, but the boy sensed it had something much more important about it that was unseen: A story; a past. The empty seat was reeking of love and loss. This seat, isolated in the Botanical Garden, belonged to someone, as an author owns the right to his storyline. Tobias almost felt like visitors couldn't justify approaching it unless they knew of and respected the tale surrounding it.
..Or maybe he'd worked in a bookstore too long.
Nonetheless, he merely ran a finger along the carved wood, and considered the bench's special aura a few more moments, before allowing himself to sit down. He then gladly leaned back with his hands supporting his head.
"What if someone else comes back here?" Vulpes inquired.
"Dun worry. If somebody's comin' I'll smell 'em a mile away."
"Unlike you, my sweet, some people do bathe."
"Hey!" Tobias jerked upright at the blow of the insult, but couldn't help laughing at it as well. Through a grin he told her, "That was completely uncalled for, foxy! Ya don't see me going on about how yer coat's a bonafide flea circus!" The dæmon gave her teenager a disgruntled expression - no hint of chuckling. Right. Apparently he wasn't permitted to make a false accusation in return. "Foxes... Yer all alike." Leaning back once more, he said, "Just wake me up before I'm sixty, okay?" Tobias knew a rainstorm was heading in their direction, but he didn't have a soaked fur coat to worry about.
((OOC: Yeah, two posts ended with a boy sitting on a bench. Get over it, peoplez. =P I had already decided last night that I wanted to begin my story where Lyra's ended: At the bench in the Botanical Garden. Anyway, Tobias is raindrop-free and open for pestering.))

Rabbitboy wandered around through the rain. She was thoroughly enjoying herself, and so was her daemon. Rain was a particular favourite of his. He looked the sky the sky and took a deep breath. Rabbitboy understood his meaning and looked around. "What about a tree?" "Too dangerous" he said. "Lets keep walking. Maybe something will show up" They continued on, coming up to a bench with a boy on it, and a girl resting under a tree. Rabbitboy looked directly at them. The girl had something odd going on about her eye. Was..it looked..did she have a scar down one eye? Rabbitboy was dying to stop walking and stick her nose where it didnt belong, mainly,in this girls eye. Her daemon felt her urge and laughed out loud. " We don't have anywhere to go" He said this in russian, a language they enjoyed talking to each other in. Rabbitboy felt a flood of excitement. She stared at the girl and casually said, " Hey. Whats up with your eye? Did you like get a fight or something?" She didn't notice a third girl walk up the tree, but her daemon did.

Keene was transfixed. The way that the rain made the leaves slowly dance to and fro....
"Person" Lekeita mumbled as a boy about his age with a fox-ish daemon walked past. Keene snapped to attention. The assaignment. Right. As soon as the new person had gone out of their sight, Keene stood up, while Lekeita stood only to shake the rain out of her fur. She was ansy, and did a strange leap to the side of his feet before following the boy around the corner. The two took no notice of the nearby girl underneath the very same tree they were hypnotized by.
Kei went ahead only slightly so as to stare around a corner before Keene caught up. The two were about twenty paces in front of him, but Keene did not want to give the two the feel that they were stalking him. He tried to keep his feet quiet while stepping through the rain puddles.
The pair took a turn down off of the main path, into a more secluded area of the Gardens. Keene made sure to follow, but not as to violate their personal space. As they took another turn, they entered a newer area of the park, with more younger trees, more fresh and clean than the rest of the Botanical Gardens. At the end of this turn was an ornate wooden bench, the only object at the dead end of this garden.
The boy Keene had been following sat down on the bench calmly chatting to his daemon as she scampered up the tree nearby. The boy appeared to be inspecting the bench, some how transfixed by its craftsmanship. Before long though, the boy relaxed a bit and tilted his head upwards to fall asleep. Kei turned to her human and nodded. Keene rounded the corner, making sure not to rouse the teen's fox daemon. The two approached carefully.
"'Scuse me....Hope I'm not bothering you...." Keene said with a slight small wave. "Couldn't help but notice you, I er--"
he paused to look at the Bench. There was something about it....he stared for a moment before his daemon coughed to alert him again.
"Um, my school professor assaigned us to ask around if anyone had any information on what kind of gasses were present in the Aurora Borealis.....nobody I've talked to knows anything, and I have yet to go to any library.....you don't, er, know anything, do you? I need to write a paper on it tonight, so I need the information quickly...."
Lekeita rolled her eyes a little bit at her human's bluntness, and decided to look around the Bench for anything worht her attention. Her attention was caught. She left Keene's side for only a second because of something behind the bench that caught her eye. Shei peeked under the Bench to see many small ropes tied in knots, with one being around a bouquet of dried roses. Someone had left them there months before. Kei cocked her head, and decided to inspect the Bench while the humans conversed. Shei looked above her, at the underside of the Bench. Someone had carved initials in the wood......along with what looked like directions on a compass and a strange knife. The letter N on the compass sketch was particularly profound, as were the initials next to the carvings.
Lekeita was a little influenced by the names--she remembered the initials well before returning to her humans side to see if his fanTAStic conversational skills had gotten him anywhere.

Katherine walked into the garden, and she watched her dæmon fly a little bit infront of her. She smiled, and pushed a few braids out of her line of vision, and called softly to the small dragon 'Aluben, come back..' the dragon puffed a bit of smoke, and came to perch on his human's shoulder. Katherine walked along thepath, getting a bit wet. Neither the dragon nor the human minded.. They loved the rain, and even after being chided many timesby their elders, they came to this spot all the time during the small storms. 'People,' Aluben stated, and Katherine nodded, outting up her mask once more.. Calm, cool, collected... Aluben put on his mask too, as much as he hated it. The pair continued to walk, and finally came to teh lone bench, and the others, and their dæmons. She simply stood near a small grouping of vegetation. Aluben glided to the ground, and stroleld casually over to the general area of the others. He sniffed at them, and hopped into the air, going back to Katherine. The girl walked closer, ever wary, but wanting to talk.

Ice knew that he had to escape the orphanage. He had been planning his escape for the last few months. "Tonight is the night." he said to So'phil, and she looked at him slowly, nodding. He quickly ran into one of the caretakers rooms, running to avoid his gaze while he walked out to get some food. He opened the nearest desk to find them. "They have to be here." he mumbled, "Aha! Found them." The wirecutters were there just as he had hoped. He ran outside, So'phil flying low next to him. He cut the gate and ran. Anywhere would do. Anywhere.
He ran. Where he ran he couldn't remember.
He stopped near a clothing shop. Closed, of course. He looked up and saw Big Ben. 12:36. He quickly broke the window, and grabbed some clothes.
He looked at the clock tower again. 01:52. By now he had changed from those dirty rags. He was standing on a rooftop. He wore a red bandana, a 3/4 black leather jacket, a short glove that showed his fingers on his left hand, red and black shades, boots, long black pants, and a metal necklece.
He looked over the side of the building to see a huge urban jungle, the likes of which he had only seen on TV. The rain was falling gently onto the jacket, but he didn't care.
"Where now, Soph?"
"Oxford."

There were starting to be too many people, and Jenna was starting to get nervous. "Relax, willya?" Captiosus said. "Hey, that guy there was asking about the aurora borelias. Why don't you go help him out? You know about the 'lights, don't you? Of course you do!" "I dunno...I might be wrong...I don't know that much about it...I mean..." "Help him out. Didn't you hear he was desperate?" Captiosus said. Jenna sighed and then walked over to the boy, who was examining something. "Uhm...heard you talking about the Northern Lights...the gasses in it? Well, uhm, I heard atomic oxygen's there, and that's what causes it to be green, and molecular oxygen causes it to be red, and nitrogen causes it to be blue. I don't know if that's what you need or anything, but...but...yeah. Uhm." She then stared, blankly and stupidly.

The sound of footsteps upon the lush grass roused Tobias from his relaxed state. He had been hoping no one else would wander past the bridge... It would be rather embarrassing to remain slumped back the way he was with 'company present,' but also to sit there in odd silence. Still, maybe the latter was a tad more preferable, so simultaneously stretching and sitting up, Tobias opened his eyes to see a male about his own age standing nearby - giving what looked like an uncertain wave.
"'Scuse me....Hope I'm not bothering you.... Couldn't help but notice you, I er--"
'I, er, felt like disturbing you from your peaceful slumber?' he wondered disdainfully. But before the other boy continued speaking, his gaze came to land on the wooden bench Toby was still sitting upon. This caught Tobias' interest. Was he not the only person who sensed this was more than just an ordinary seat with an ordinary history? He himself had realized the object was quite transfixing in a bizarre way, but the boy's genet dæmon coughed in order to move his thoughts along.
"Then ya should be asking a scholar at your local bookstore, not some random teen in a garden," was Tobias' automatic reply. Vulpes noticeably winced beside him, so he tried to take it back by adding, "I mean... I don't believe I c'n help ya any. The Aurora Borealis is not exactly my area of expertise. But, uh... I work at a bookstore just a few blocks down. There's probably a good amount o' information in our encyclopedia set."
Soon after a girl appeared and hesitantly shared what she knew about the Northern Lights. 'Jeez, what is this? A classroom?' Tobias looked around the bit of land for any other life forms, and sure enough, another girl was standing farther back. Her small dragon soul inched over towards the bench and sniffed at Vulpes before flying back to his human. Tobias' eyes followed the dragon's trail, but he decided not to worsen the girl's wariness by staring intently, so instead turned his focus back to the bold procrastinator.
He was beginning to feel uneasy with these few strangers hovering over him, so stood up with a sigh of defeat - Vulpes soon jumping down, too. He then just gave the boy a calm look and waited to see if he wanted any more help. If not, this work-skipping juvenile was probably going to make his exit.

All was quiet in the shadowy room except for the pounding of rain on the roof. Adrienne was resting her cheek against the glass of the window, her breath occasionally fogging it up. Her grey eyes watched with interest as the rain fell upon the tiny people who scattered like ants for shelter from the storm. Although she was on the second floor, she could see all of the people’s expressions as they tried to hide under newspapers and trees. She brushed her fingers upon the glass, relishing its delicious coolness. “You know that all you have to do is leave this prison of a room and you too can enjoy the rain.”
Adrienne’s dæmon, Haelphaesus, slinked out from the shadows and rested his wolf head against Adrienne’s leg. Hei was right and she knew it, but she was reluctant to show it. “I know.... but, I like to just sit here and watch....”
Haelphaesus nudged her knee and growled, “It’s not healthy for you to sit in here all day, everyday. You need a life outside of this rat hole.”
She sighed dejectedly, “Ok, you’re right.”
As Adi walked to the door, she grabbed a little leather backpack that contained a notebook, a pack of crackers, and a necklace wrapped up in black velvet. Her grandmother had given the necklace to her before she passed on. It was a locket and inside it contained... well, she didn’t actually know. The clasp on the silver heart was broken and couldn’t be opened. She had tried for days to pry it free, but it stubbornly refused to give. Adrienne kept it in her backpack just in case; of what, she wasn’t too sure. But it felt right to have it in there where she knew it was always safe. After running down the flights of stairs from her mom’s apartment to the front entrance of the complex, she stopped to contemplate whether or not her mother would care if she caught a cold from the rain. Her mom was divorced and worked all of the time. She probably wouldn’t even notice if she was sick, just like she didn’t notice (or care) if Adrienne went to school or not. After reaching this conclusion, she walked out into the rain and spread her arms open wide. Two weeks of isolation at home in her room made her feel especially free as the crystal raindrops fell onto her face. Haelphaesus became a duck and waddled through the puddles that dotted Oxford’s streets, splashing Adi whenever he could. Their joy was short lived, though, when the sound of a gunshot resonated throughout the streets. Hael instinctively became a wolf and peered into the pouring rain. Hei could see a teen running for his life as an older brute of a man chased him down the street, firing a large rifle at the boy as he went. A woman’s screams could be heard and Haelphaesus growled in alarm, “Adi, GET DOWN!!”
The shots that missed the young man flew over her as she hit the wet ground. She covered her head with her shaking hands and cried out to her dæmon, “Hael, what do we do?!”
He laid himself down next to her and said, “We can only wait until this madness is over...”
(( OC: Yay! I'm sneaking online to read the RPGS! *SHHH* ) )

"Tell me again why we're out here in the rain?" Lindy's daemon said, trying to avoid puddles of water. Lindy ajusted the strap of her leather bag"I have some free time. So why not?"
"Did you have to spend your free time outside on such a gloomy day?" Her daemon complained. "Oh, stop whining, Beauet. I'm just going to the garden to relax." Beauet sighed, sometimes he never understood what was going on in Lindy's head. Going to a soggy garden to relax on a horrible day like this.
Once they both had reached the garden, Beauet jumped in certain places on the grass, as if his paw's touched that area it would magically become dry. Lindy rolled her eyes"Come on....It's dry under that tree." She pointed to a large oak tree. It's branches were like an umbrella and kept the rain out from under it.
Lindy sat down against the rough trunk of the oak.She got out a rather thick looking book and opened to a place in the pages where she had put a small leather strap to save her place. Then she began to read. Beauet lay down beside her and watched the droplets of water drip off of the leaves and fall onto the already dewy grass.

Katherine moved closer to the bench, as her dæmon watched Vulpes.. She shrugged, and looked it over.. The others seemed to not notice this bench.. except for the boy with the black fox dæmon, and her.. Aluben spread his wings and said 'start a conversation with him' Katherine shrugged and went over to where Toby was
'Hi' she said a bit meekly.. She didn't really like meeting new people, but maybe she should try. 'I heard you work at a bookstore? What kind of books are there...?'
Aluben sighed and said to Vulpes, 'What do you think about that bench?' He was much bolder than his human, when meeting others. 'Wei noticed something odd about it.. and I thought you had too..'
Katherine nodded and held her face up to the sky...

Vulpes' ears swiveled atop her furry head as she noted that the dragon's human was inching closer. The dæmon's green eyes dared a glance at them to see the other soul was watching her. Her muscles shook the slightest under his equally verdant stare. Both Vulpes and her teenager didn't appreciate a stranger's eyes on them -- it's like a distracting beam of sunlight that you can't dodge.
Tobias looked at the auburn-haired girl with an uncertain twitch of his lips (that is, he tried to force a smile, and it didn't work).
"Hi," she said, with an obvious lack of confidence. "I heard you work at a bookstore? What kind of books are there...?"
In a nervous manner, he used four fingers to brush his unruly hair away from his face. He never fully understood small talk, but maybe he could give it a shot. The girl clearly didn't mean any harm by approaching him.
"Redfield Novels has books of every size, shape, and scent!" Tobias told her in the faked, overzealous voice of an announcer. But this was short-lived, and he continued in his regular tone by saying, "It has yer fundamental fantasy, biography, and mystery... but I think most of what they sell is poorly written bullshit, if you can excuse my language." Here he winked. "Do yourself a big favor and don't go there, ever. My manager wouldn't appreciate me sayin' that, but... I wouldn't want to see any youth waste a precious minute of their life in that dreary shop."
Both the boy and fox were surprised when the dragon dæmon piped up, asking Vulpes, "What do you think about that bench? Wei noticed something odd about it.. and I thought you had too.."
She considered this while turning to face the lone wooden seat. What was it that had intrigued them so deeply....?
"I suppose..." she began, an ear twitching, "that we sense it's very important to someone, out there... I almost feel as though we've sullied it by coming in contact with it, because what someone experienced by this bench is so personal and private...." Her voice trailed off as she shook these strange thoughts from her consciousness. "Maybe we're just insane. I know TOBIAS here is."
"Vulpes...! The deal was you only call me a lunatic behind closed doors, remember?" Instantly embarrassed by having others hear their badinage, (since that was so uncommon), he chuckled uncertainly and changed the subject by asking, "Well, I'm obviously Tobias. What's yer name?"
