The sky was darkening. A graceful crescent moon hung in the sky, surrounded by twinkling stars. If anyone had looked up, they would have seen a frightening sight - a lone owl dæmon flying through the misty air.
Senna pulled the flyer out of her pocket again. 'Redfield Novels,' she said. Ser, you see anything?
Not yet. Senna felt a tug as her dæmon changed from an owl to a hawk. Looking, though.
The girl sighed and sat down by a lamppost to wait.
~*~
Half an hour later, a dark bird swooped down from the even darker sky and settled on the lamppost above Senna. 'Found it.'
She sighed, clambered up and dusted off her skirt. 'Well, that doesn't do much good now, does it? It's late. Nearing nine o' clock, I'd say.'
Seralis shrugged. 'There's an inn on the way. You can sleep there. Why d'you want to go to this place, anyway?'
'I just feel it's where we ought to go to. Didn't you notice the feeling around that bench? It was enchanted, almost. Like something had changed it forever. Everything that goes on around there has importance.'
Her dæmon stared. 'I'm not letting you into that bookstore, girl. The faerie-tales you read have eaten your common sense.'
Senna rolled her eyes and jumped at her crow dæmon. 'Let's just go, Ser. You can torment me along the way.'
Seralis fluttered down from the lamppost and landed as a snow leopard, graceful and poised. 'As you wish, your majesty.'
The girl scowled good-naturedly at her dæmon, and they took off down the silent street.

Time had passed without Lee noticing, and it was very dark now. She whistled as they wandered looking for a place to hang out for awhile. And probably sleep. Alittle up ahead they saw a bookstore.

"RedField Novels"
'...looks quiet,sorta..peaceful' intoned Lee
They stepped in and Lee wandered around, touching various books. She found a corner of the store, and after looking around to make sure noone was watching her, she layed down on the floor and went to sleep.

"Man, what a jerk..." Tobias mumbled as he plopped himself down behind the service desk. "I was only two hours late this time.. Normally when I think about ditchin' work it takes me at least three hours to convince myself otherwise."
"Right... How completely inconsiderate of your boss," his fox dæmon remarked with a cynical tone. "Really, Toby - keep this up and I swear ya won't have a job anymore."
He shrugged. "Maybe that's what I want.." Turning his attention to the pile of paperbacks left beside the register, Tobias decided that it would be best to do something productive rather than risking Vulpes going into lecture-mode. Lifting the top four novels and positioning them under his left arm, the boy headed for the darkest corner of the bookstore (ironically the romance section). Honestly, he enjoyed the dim atmosphere and scent of dusty literature-- it was just the manager he couldn't stand... and all those fantasy book geeks with their braces, freckles, and bifocal glasses. The temptation was so strong to ask the last kid, 'You know yer a walking stereotype, right?'
Vulpes trotted up ahead, leading the way past tall oak shelves and old reading chairs. Suddenly she turned a corner and made an abrupt halt. The human stumbled as a result of the surprise that leapt into her chest. Once he stepped around the dæmon he saw what had stopped their progress: A customer had fallen asleep right there on the hardwood floor.
"Hmm..." He put his load of books on the nearest shelf and lightly nudged the body with a foot. "Hey, can't you do that somewhere else? This isn't a hotel, last time I checked."

" check again " Lee snapped and rolled over, facing away from him. her daemon was sleeping soundly beside her.
she sighed and decided she wasnt going to get any rest with this kid bothering her anyways. She got up and walked out of the store, knockin books off shelves as she went ( out of spite )
she wandered exhaustedly away from the store, away from the girl with the dragon daemons house..( katherine..? ) not really knowing where she was going .
(OOC: shes headed for the sluuummsss where all the ACTION is )

Senna chased down the street after Seralis, laughing. 'Hey! This can't be fair, you're a quadruped!'
Her dæmon snickered good-naturedly and stopped. 'No matter, we're here.'
Senna skidded to a stop and knocked her wolf-formed dæmon over. 'Where's here?'
'Redfield Novels.'
'Right, I knew that.' Senna straightened her skirt, gathered Seralis as a cat into her arms, and walked into the store.
~*~
Inside, all the furnishings of a proper bookstore were evident. Tall wooden shelves, soft old chairs, and that unusual, musty smell of words begging to be read. Senna inhaled deeply. This was her sort of place.
She didn't see anyone at the desk, so she headed back into the shelves.
'Hello? Anyone there?'

More than a little out of breath, Julian continued his escape from The Slums. He hadn't stopped running since breaking away from Killer. Shay kept up with his rapid pace, but she was unusually silent. Any other time, Julian would have wondered why she wasn't complaining yet, but his mind was still fixed on the way Killer had grabbed and held Shay as though she were nothing to him.
He only felt relatively safe when he reached a quieter part of Oxford. Julian finally slowed and walked up to a building, leaning against it to catch his breath. Shay huddled miserably next to him, not seeming to notice that she was sitting in a shallow puddle, a result of the day's earlier rainfall. Julian frowned a little, giving his dæmon a quick once-over. She didn't look too good. Her fur was matted, limbs stiff, whiskers and tail drooped listlessly.
"You alright, Shay?" he murmured.
She didn't answer.
Julian sighed heavily and looked up at the sign above his head - Redfield Novels, it read - then down to the shop itself. It seemed a quiet, homely place. Silently, he slipped inside, Shay following. His eyes took in every detail. There seemed to be only one other person there: a girl with what looked like a cat dæmon. Intrigued by the place now, Julian started to walk between two of the large bookcases, scanning each title. Shay kept up her silent torpor, not caring that her tail brushed the ground when she walked.
Once Julian figured they were safe in the cover of the shelves' tall-cast shadows, he pulled the alethiometer out of his pocket. Instantly lost in its pale glow, he slid down against a bookshelf into a sitting position, transfixed by the needles, darting back and forth. "Think it could tell us anything, Shay?" His dæmon ignored him. Irked, he started playing absent-mindedly with one of the needles.

Tobias was glad that the one delinquent got up and left without him having to call the authorities. Not so much because of the time it wasted (the more, the better!), but because a policeman was bound to not bother showing up anyway, and he'd have to deal with the girl on his own, or bring Steve into the mess. ...Steve's voice aggravated him.
After speedily stuffing the romantic novels back into their specified slots on the shelf, he turned around to spot a girl his age who had entered the store. She was cradling her cat dæmon in her arms and seemed to be enjoying the smell of old books. Tobias couldn't blame her. Unless you had allergies, you liked the scent of this place.
"C'n I help you?" he asked, making his way toward her. At the same moment Vulpes' ears twitched at the sound of other footsteps in the building, but her human couldn't stop being a typical male (i.e. more concerned with the attractive customer).

Killers search for Julian brought him to Redfield Novels. It appeared to be a lonely place. Noisily he walked inside, Forgotten right at his heels. Killers eyes took in no details. There was only one visible person there: a girl with what looked like a cat dæmon, but he thought he heard voices. Killer started to walk between two of the large bookcases looking for anyone he knew. Forgotten kept up the rear, not caring what Killer was doing as he ripped books off the shelves. Killer walked around and he started to hear muttering.
"Think it could tell us anything, Shay?"
He recognised the name Shay and peered around the bookcase, there was Julian holding a compass-like thing, and his Daemon was playing with it.
"YOU!"

"YOU!"
"Shit!" spat Julian, scrambling up hastily. He stuffed the alethiometer into a pocket inside his jacket and darted around the shelf. His desperate race away from Killer brought him back to the front of the shop, where he smacked straight into Tobias. He stumbled backwards, recognizing Vulpes instantly. Judging by what Tobias had said to the girl - "C'n I help you?" - he worked here. Julian's words came in a rush.
"Listen, there's this guy here, and he's crazy, he grabbed my dæmon and honestly I'm a little afraid of him doin' that again, can you - can you kick him out, or something?" His eyes pleaded with Tobias, the confident, smug air erased. He didn't want any foriegn hand on Shay ever again.

Killer rounded to bookshelf on Julian
"iv'e been looking for you, you have nothing to fear, the events of the past are finished now, and I will not hold your daemon ever again"
Killer said this as he walked closer to Julian and he finally stopped a foot away from Tobias
"you have no buisness between us"
Killer offered his hand to Julian
"come on, get up, we need to talk".

Tobias let out an annoyed shout when suddenly rammed into, but once his eyes recognized the face before him, Vulpes silenced his griping with a smug thought of 'Karma.'
He gave the boy a questioning look that turned to alarm when he heard what Julian had to say. 'He grabbed my dæmon.' Those four simple words sent a wave of disgust and fear down his own spine. Tobias' head snapped to look at the other male who'd entered the store as Vulpes took a cautious step backwards.
After one last look at Julian's honest, pleading eyes, he spoke to the soul-defiler in a stern voice, saying, "Look, I'll have to ask you to--" But the boy interrupted him and turned his attention to the one beside him.
"come on, get up, we need to talk".
Tobias knew he couldn't read the mind of the startled boy, so he choice to remain silent for the moment and let him speak for himself -- his one action being to step forward in order to partially block the aggressor's path to Julian, eyeing both him and his wolf dæmon suspiciously.

"I said get up" Killer repeated, reaching out to Julian once again, stepping away from Tobias "trust me this time, I won't hurt you"
