i'm translating it from spanish. It's finished, and there are 12 chapters, but I only traduced the first one. See if you like it:
Between the darkness (title)
The bridge of the desolation (1º chapter)
The little girl was crying disconsolately and Amanda Skadi could only hug her. Between sobs and hiccupping, there was just one word she said that could be understood: “Why?”
As she hugged her, Amanda felt a lot of compassion for the girl. She perfectly knew that it was unfair, but both knew it was her destiny, and they couldn’t oppose to it.
Suddenly, the little humming bird-daemon of the witch stopped on her shoulder and whispered: _You have to leave her alone with her suffering.
Amanda nodded and released the girl. She took her softly by the chin and said: _Look at me.
The girl raised her face and looked at Amanda with her green eyes, filled in tears.
_Tara, you know you must go. You know that, if you don’t go, you’ll loose this opportunity forever. You’re the cho...You must go. If you don’t go, they’ll find another one, and you’ll lose the chance forever_ she lied. She knew that there was not another one but this, one opportunity, one salvation.
The girl nodded slowly. Tears still covered her face, but she looked determined to the deserted land that was in front of her. And she also looked at the bridge which she must follow to get into the land. She couldn’t repress a little moan. She pressed her waist with both hands in the same place in where her daemon would be if it had a corporeal form.
The witch looked at her carefully. The girl had straight long dark-gold like hair. Her skin was very pale, and covered by fur clothes which made her movements very difficult, was her thin body.
They didn’t knew each other for too long, but Amanda knew that as she’ll never forget about the day she left her daemon in the beginning of the same bridge, she would never forget about how Tara Mai must left something she could not see, something she could not touch, but something that she loved and felt in her heart.
She hugged her for the last time, kissed her burning cheeks and said:_Now, you must start the way to the end of the world. You know your mission, and you must do it. Good bye, Tara Mai, witches give you their blessings.
And with those words, she turned, took her wind-pine bunch and flew away, leaving Tara alone with her pain.
She felt weak, so she sat on the frozen floor, knowing that she shouldn’t. She looked around. It was a kind of island beside a frozen sea. There was a big pit, and the only way to cross it was by the bridge she feared so badly. It was strong, and solid, but didn’t make her feel comfortable.
She had bundle with enough food and water for some weeks, a blanket, a compass and a crossbow. In that island nobody lived, but she had to be prepared for everything.
“Of course, nobody lives here” she thought “who would want to live in this desolation?”
She remembered Amanda Skadis words:_ if you don’t go, you’ll loose this opportunity forever…
But, was it worth to suffer for it? What did she win leaving her poor daemon, Rester, for those who were now comfortably in their houses, without worrying about anything apart from them?
She didn’t want to be alone, didn’t want to stop hearing the voice of his loved Rester, by her side everywhere she went.
Again, that invisible part of her body whispered her:_ Do what you have to do.
She didn’t want to hear him saying what the others said. She knew the daemon was really scared, perhaps even more than her, and was very brave trying to comfort her.
She moaned, cried, yelled, but nothing helped. Finally, getting all the strength she had, she picked up the bundle and walked to the bridge.
When she took the first footstep on the bridge, she thought everything would be ok. She walked a bit more and wanted to laugh of happiness. She didn’t feel like being away from Rester, it looked like he was still there.
Hopefully, she continued a bit more. Nothing. But when she was at the middle, she felt a horrible pain. It came from her heart. Something was pulling out her heart, but she could still hear it beating in her waist; it was like the most personal and secret thing in her was being pulled out. She immediately understood it. That thing was Rester.
She couldn’t see because of the pain, but continued walking through the bridge to the desolation, more clear now.
Pressing her chest were she always thought Rester was, she put a trembling foot on the snow which covered all the land, and started to get into the desolation.
