Syriel is completely, 100% settled and her fur still changes colors depending on my mood.

I knew that my post would get some people feeling like they had to defend themselves and their ideas, which was not my point but also unavoidable. I obviously have a different than traditional view on daemon. I dont want to deconstruct everything you said because it would take alot of energy and also, i dont really care...however maybe I ll take just a quick look. *cant resist arguing things*
My moods change dramatically and often very quickly at short notice. I can be happy one moment and violently angry the next, or supremely depressed and miserable. That does not mean that Kael becomes an animal to reflect those feelings
Of course. Not any where did i say anything contrary to this. Those dramatic changes are on the surface. You can feel happy and depressed at the same time. Happy would be the fleeting emotion, the one on the top that isnt long lasting . Depressed would be the deep down part. Your daemon only reflects that part. You reflect the shell.
I'm GLAD that Kael has settled, but I guess I'm the only one on this. It feels that way, at any rate.
Uh, ya. Your daemons a tiger, bud.
A soul mate, to me, is very different from your soul. YOUR soul. Your daemon. The Animus/Anima idea suggests that anybody on the street could be your Animus/Anima, and be many different people. Your daemon is YOU. Your daemon is in you.
..Perhaps...be careful what you say here..just because you have daemons all worked out doesnt mean there arent more possibilities. What about the idea of one persons soul inhibiting anothers body? I thought tigers were supposed to be open to new ideas and scornful of traditional things?
I find daemons to be very unlike God actually, in that they are constant. My daemon is real to me. He has a personality, he answers whenever I ask, and he's always there even when I'm not talking to him directly. He's never not there. I don't pray to my daemon. I talk to him. He answers me. To say that your daemon is just a convenient little occasional helper is...twisted. They're not here for our convenience, they're here because they ARE us. Our SOUL. They're not their own deity, they're not seperate from us.
No.You don't understand at all. For people who pray to God everyday, he is real. He is always there for them. Don't they say' God is Everywhere?" Is that not because he is ' with them in their hearts? ' Does no one else see the resemblances? I never said he was a convinient little occasional helper. Im saying they are buried inside of you, as in '' the strength she never knew she had ' etc.
He's my soul, for gods sake. But he's also himself as much as he is me. He's not 'anything I want him to be.' That is nothing but an imaginary friend, a dinky little puppet to compliment you and croon over you and tell you how wonderful you are.
No. You are just plain wrong here. There is no argument I can provide. You are being ignorant and I am actually a little embarrassed for you. Think before you speak next time. And gott damnn in himmel, I told myself I would not go through your post and rebut. But look what you have made me do. I hold you indirectly responsible. (its ok hun. i forgive you )

Hey, daemons, for the most part, are, what's the word I'm looking for? I don't know. I'm not saying they're not real, but there's nothing really certain about them. Daemons can be whatever people want them to be (though we can all agree Okibi is the authority. )--if people want them to be a little companion or a best friend or just something to talk to when one is alone or something they go to for guidance, or a different entity or their own soul because, really, there are no facts about daemons. All that's known is what Pullman says; and even HE doesn't believe in them like we do (or so it seems.) As for the daemon changing thing...a settled daemon's form reflects your personality, not your mood. If the daemon was supposed to be one's mood, it would never change. However, the forms do have moods. A rabbit can be angry; a tiger can be sad.

I'll just poke my little head in here to remind us all of rule numbah one.
1. Do not insult or swear at other members. Don't insult their beliefs, works, or ideas, either. Friendly debate is fine, but do not let it turn into a fight. (This will get you booted quick.) The Golden Rule here is that you be kind and respectful to the others posting here.
Calling someone ignorant or wrong counts as an insult to me. I don't want to get dragged into this, but for Pete's sake Ghost what are you expecting them to reply? That you have provided such a well-thought-out argument that is logical and fair and doesn't insult anyone and you've convinced them? Why do you assume you are completely right and all the rest of us are morons? Just answer that for me. Real quick, and I'll get off your back.

To me it's silly to suggest there are limitations to when you are and are not speaking to your own soul.. For someone to say your dæmon isn't your friend, in my opinion, is not understanding what they really are. The dæmon is so much more than a helping hand now and then. Some people may only communicate directly with their human when they're needing guidance or comfort, but other dæmons help the person merely by being there all the time, and letting them know they're there. Just this morning Rookie was thinking about the discussion here and after getting my attention with, "Kris. Hey, Kris," he dug his claws into my shoulder, hoping I would mentally feel it. And I did. "I'm here. I'm always here," he told me. But I didn't need to be told - that's an obvious fact for me.
This whole argument is pointless. While some of you may feel there's nothing certain about dæmons, it shouldn't be disputed that one can see theirs as much, or as infrequently, as they wish. But it's wrong to say those of us who visualize our dæmons more often are "fooling ourselves." =/ It deals more with personal preference than what's real or false.

This is like arguing about religion. People believe different things, you can't prove anything about who's right or not.

All that's known is what Pullman says; and even HE doesn't believe in them like we do (or so it seems.) Ah ... I wasn't originally planning on posting here until I read that. First of all, I agree with everything Okibi's said. And by now ... between the "Life Span of a Dæmon" thread and this, I'm starting to think maybe my views and hers are seperate from a lot of the people here. That kinda makes me sad. But anyw00t. " Daemons can be whatever people want them to be ... --if people want them to be a little companion or a best friend or just something to talk to when one is alone or something they go to for guidance, or a different entity or their own soul because, really, there are no facts about daemons." ::points to the Facts section on The Dæmon Page:: If dæmons were just a "little companion" or "something to talk to when one is bored" ... well, wouldn't that make them imaginary friends? Just a two-dimensional figure. Just another made-up, talking animal. If Pocket was that I really wouldn't bother. I'm not alone often, but I still choose to talk to Pocket whenever I can. He's not just some thing I talk to to ease my boredom. He's witty jokes and good advice and reliable opinions. He isn't a little companion or even a best friend. Pocket goes deeper than that, he's more ... intimate, I suppose. I'm surprised that you guys of all people don't seem to be agreeing with me at present. =\ " Having a daemon constantly around is a tiring idea. They are there for when you need them, when things are rough and you need guidance. They arent your best friend. Anyone who says they talk to their daemon all the time is a liar, or kidding themselves." That - that is just ridiculous, and I hope nobody else agrees with that. ::huff:: Sorry if you feel I overreacted. I'm inclined to defend my beliefs ... even though they look to be different from a lot of yours.

I agree wholeheartedly with Cat and Okibi in the idea that dæmons are more than just something our mind creates. I mean, I know Sy's there for me all the time. I can't force Ghost or anyone else who may think otherwise to accept what I deem as true. Truth has many different forms, depending on our point of view. No single definition of dæmon is wholly correct, because it is a belief.
I'm thinking that we need to settle down a bit, and get back to what we should be discussing. We shouldn't be putting people on trial for their beliefs. We should be discussing the relevance of animus and anima to dæmons.

You can't tell a person what their daemon is or should be to them. (I know I'm being a hypocrite because I expressed my opinion that I don't like the idea of cartoon daemons.) Don't you think if the world was the same, there would be these same exact types of problems? People who treat their daemons as their life; people who treat their daemon as gasp, secondary. What are daemons for, anyway? We're just theorists. Nothing about daemons are written in stone or facts. People's ideas of daemons are different, and that upsets a lot of people here...

If people want their daemon to be that, then they're not the sort of people that I want to talk to. No, we can't tell a person what their daemon should be to them, but we can still be disgusted by them and their ilk. For us that love our daemons and make them so much an involved part of our lives, we'll always hate or at the very least despise the people who see their daemons as secondary. Personally, I pity those daemons who must live that way, crawling after their humans like so much baggage. I think the answer to the question What are daemons for? lies in what they do for us. What they've done for ALL of the people who have come to these forums and really started to get to know their daemons. They're here to love us, to care for us, to advise us, to help us, and to console us. They're here because they're our soul, and they're here to do all they can to aid us. Just as we are here to love and cherish that which makes us whole, and that teaches us that which no other could teach so well. Nothing about daemons are written in stone or facts. They're written somewhere much more personal; our hearts. Those who cannot read the writing are thus, to me, truly blind and pitiful creatures. Those that see the writing and warp and twist it to suit themselves aren't worthy of the life companions that suffer under their hypocritical filth.

I agree totally with Kate, Cat, Okibi and TU. Daemons are not just little things to pick up to amuse yourself with when your bored. Daemons have a will of their own, and to treat them like pets to be let out of their basket when we want to play with them is insulting. Some people may 'grow out' of daemons, because projecting their daemon is too much work to have a eternal, loving companion or they may just follow the crowd and dismiss them as a fad and that really is sad. I pity people who don't know their daemon like I do and judging from the responses here, like many other people here. People who want their daemons to be part-time toys are just kidding themselves, not people who remain loyal to their heart of hearts. Their daemon.

Why must one talk to their daemon all the time, to make them foremost in their lives? People who are comfortable with the daemons don't need them around all the time. Like in HDM. People aren't always, constantly doting over their daemons.

We're not /doting/ on them, nor are we pushing them to the front of our lives ... oh, I can't explain myself as well as Kate or someone could ...
