I was just thinking, how would school be different if dæmons were corporeal? Like, would curriculum be different? Would there be specific dæmon colleges? Things along that line.

They would have wider corridors...>.>

Well, wider corridors is kinda the obvious thing.
Possibly dæmon-related classes? Like, 'Dæmon Form Interpretation' or even the general 'Dæmon Studies'.

Things like this have come out before. But even if it was the same basic curriculum-- like if they became corpreal tomarrow or something-- how would things have to change. It would be ridiculously easier to cheat on a test, wouldn't it? And you would have a rule that says "no dæmon fights in class" and stuff like that. "It's disruptive." And the teacher's dæmon would have to keep the students's in line, and quite. And what happens when real fights happen? Do dæmons get involved? The fighters's? The teachers's? And could you respect your principle is her dæmon was like a gecko or something?

I think there would be some pretty strict daemon touching rules. Touching someone else's daemon is like, a week of detention or something like that, and doing again is suspension, three times=expulsion. And don't give me nonsense like, "What if it was an accident?" We'd have WIDE hallways, and you'd deserve to be punished if you hadn't been paying attention and bumped into someone's sould. It's like saying, "Well, officer, I didn't mean to rape them! It was an accident, I swear!"

Unfortunately, there would be a negative side. I think that there would be more bullying based on what people's settled daemons are. Like, someone with a lion daemon would look down on someone with an ant daemon, although we all here know that that doesn't necessarily make you better.

Bullying about daemons would be the worst, because a daemon isn't something superficial like your height or voice or even race, it's your core and who you are and all you'll ever be. Undermining someone's esteem in their daemon would be worse than pretty much anything bullies these days can do. Bullying would be a bigger problem too, I think, because it would be so /easy/ to pick the most vulnerable person out of a crowd.
But wouldn't it be great when that one super attractive popular person who's more horrible than anything and only you seem to see it ends up with a slug daemon? ;D

It was also be revealing about puberty, and possibly sexual orientation.

I always thought it would be lousy to have either a slug, jellyfish, or sponge daemon. Especially a sponge. I mean....eurgh.

It would be horrible to have those kinds of dæmons. Or, to me at least. I mean, to imagine Callida as one of those... *shudders*
What about colleges? If now there are certain colleges that are all boys or all girls, what about dæmons? Would there be, for example, all canine colleges? Or, even more specific, all wolf? If that were the case, I would assume the curriculum would be centered on the type of things they would do better.

Who knows--probably.
I wonder if since there are school sports for daemons. Like, daemon track--long jump, 100 m dash, high jump.....just for the daemons. That would be interesting....
*imagines Tyb as a jellyfish* Ouch...

Heehee a sponge would be so annoying, I think. Imagine having deep heartfelt conversations all night long with a.. sponge.
I wonder how mundane you'd have to be to settle as something like a sponge, anyway? They don't really do anything.
Hm. I don't know about the daemon curiculum, do people with the same daemons really have the same interests? Because there are things I'm naturally good at that I still hate doing.
It'd be awesome if they chose roommates by daemon, though. No more bad roommates ever! (:

But, not really plausible. The distance issue. The human'd have to run with the dæmon, or it wouldn't work. Even then it'd be difficult, because the dæmon's speed would be entirely dependant on the human's. EDIT: except for things that require little or no distance.

Like the Tarters, right?
The problem with "how would it be different if they existed" questions is simply the fact that how we know life, how our society evolved, they never have existed corpreally. So the changes would be a heck of a lot bigger than "wide halls" unless it is a new thing, and then we ask how would we HAVE to change?
Like in Lyra's world where life and everything else is totally different-- t that dæmons exist there is a big part of the social differences. Ettiqutte and line divisions would be greater in a world with dæmons, at least one that always had them. It is even easier to ientify the servants, with their "terrior dæmon trotting at [their] heels," to alter a quote from Northern Lights.
But if they were to appear tomarrow in OUR world, how would we change? I think that, despite certain horrible things at first, it would make things better. Now it is quite clear-- everyone has a soul, right? Further, you would be forced to consider what happens to your soul (like her being touched) and then realize the impropiety of doing the same to another's dæmon. It would be such a big change, we would either fall into chaos or bridge over some of that which we've got today.
